*Warning: This article contains spoilers for Hijack.*

It’s the Apple TV+ action thriller that kept us guessing and worrying about whether or not the plane would actually land safely, but Hijack certainly delivered in the drama stakes.

The Idris Elba-led series blended real-time action to tell the story of one plane’s hijacking as it makes its way back to London from Dubai.

The real reason for the hijacking was soon revealed in the tense finale, as well as links to the organised crime group who were pulling all the strings behind it and how other side characters were brought in to carry out the OCG leader’s deadly plot.

But all was well in the end, with Flight KA29 landing safely back in London with many a bump and bruise in tow. After one very gripping final face-off, Sam (Elba) finally got the lead hijacker Stuart (Neil Maskell) arrested after Stuart tried to kill him.

While the series was a great one, fans will undoubtedly be left wondering whether there will be a season 2. Read on for everything we know so far about a potential second season of Hijack.

As of now, Apple TV+ has not confirmed whether Hijack will be returning for a second season. We do know that the series has debuted to much fanfare and acclaim, with many loving the twists and turns of the series.

Although the series seems to wrap up rather nicely, lead actor and executive producer Elba has said that he would love to return to his character of enigmatic business negotiator Sam Nelson.

Chatting to Variety about the possibility of his character Sam making a return, Elba said: “What would be the acceptable scenario that he comes back? Because we’ve thought about this and obviously Apple have gone, ‘Well, we really love the show.’ And I think, you know, Rotten Tomatoes is at 92% at the moment, which is a good sign, but it’s kind of like — he’s not a cop — what would be the acceptable Sam Nelson return? And if I’m honest, I’m not sure.”

He added: “I’d like that, but I just don’t want to put him on another hijack. I’m open to that character coming back. I think if people were compelled to like the character, then I’m in.”

Hijack season 2 release date speculation: When will it air?

As Hijack season 2 is yet to be confirmed, there’s no telling when a potential second season could air on Apple TV+.

We do know with the ongoing writer’s and actor’s strikes, that would likely put a pause in production plans but Hijack season 2 could possibly be on our screens some time in 2024 or 2025.

Hijack season 2 cast: Who could return?

As for who could return to the action thriller, we’d expect Elba to once again lead the cast as Sam Nelson and after the finale, we know that his son Kai (Jude Cudjoe) is safe and sound, thanks to the aid of Sam’s estranged wife’s new partner, Daniel (Max Beesley).

We’d expect them all to make a return, but as for the rest of the cast it’s hard to tell, seeing as we we can’t imagine Hijack season 2 would follow a similar plane-themed plot.

We do know that Captain Robin Allen (Ben Miles) and Lewis Atterton/Ryan Cunningham (Jack McMullen) won’t be returning as they both died on the plane, but Lewis’s brother Stuart could certainly make a reappearance, especially after he tried to kill Sam in the series’ final moments.

The Hijack main cast members we’d expect to make a return for season 2 would be:

 • Idris Elba as Sam Nelson
 • Christine Adams as Marsha Smith-Nelson
 • Max Beesley as DI Daniel O’Farrel
 • Jude Cudjoe as Kai Nelson
 • Archie Panjabi as DCI Zahra Gahfoor
 • Hattie Morahan as Louise Aitchison, British foreign secretary
 • Neil Stuke as Neil Walsh, British home secretary

Although many fans of the series would love to see more of Sam, Elba has admitted that if he was to return to do another instalment of the series, it can’t just follow the same format as season 1.

It makes a lot of sense because if Sam was to fall victim of yet another plane hijacking, fans may be a little confused. But what could Sam do in season 2? Well, speaking to TV Insider, Elba said: “Look, I’m going to be honest here. I’d like to see Sam come back, but I just don’t want to see another Hijack.

“It’s got to be clever, and we can see him make decisions that are impossible to make. And I think that’s going to be fun for the audience, but it has to be the right setup. So who knows? If the audience really wants it, it’s going to happen.”

We did see Sam eventually make it out of the plane after a tense confrontation with lead hijacker Stuart but as for what Sam could be walking out to, it remains to be seen. We’re sure after helping in the takedown of the hijackers, Sam would likely be commended by the home secretary and foreign secretary but would he turn to government work?

As for his personal life, the hijack could very well bring him and his estranged wife Marsha closer but that could spell some tricky dynamics between Sam and Daniel.

And could Sam be facing a future looking over his shoulder after Stuart gets imprisoned? Quite possibly, as it’s clear the OCG member wanted to exact some kind of revenge on Sam after the death of his brother. We’re sure with the Cheapside Firm deal being usurped by a change of plan, it could spell trouble for Sam as he was the most prominent passenger on the plane trying to take them down.

Is there a trailer for Hijack season 2?

*Warning: This article contains full spoilers for Hijack episode 7.*

It’s safe to say that Apple TV+‘s Hijack has kept us on the edge of our seats throughout all seven episodes, but the thought of landing the plane safely without any more casualties seemed like a distant dream.

Episode 6, Comply Slowly, delivered yet another plot twist as a surprise character Amanda (Holly Aird) was revealed to be part of the hijack all along, but did Sam Nelson (Idris Elba) manage to talk her down and get everyone to safety?

The all-important subplot of Cheapside Firm bosses Edgar (Simon McBurney) and John (Ian Burfield), aka the masterminds behind the hijack, also unfolded with shock consequences as they navigated their newfound freedom outside of prison.

Whether you’re still reeling from the finale or are just keen to read a full breakdown of the chaotic events that ensued, read on for a recap of the Hijack finale.

With less than an hour left on the flight, all eyes were on the hijackers and Sam for how the hijacking would end. But the finale opened with a (literal) bang as it was revealed that Amanda had shot and killed Captain Robin (Ben Miles), meaning that the flight no longer had a captain. Talk about stressful.

Sam and the crew figure out that Amanda, who surprised them all and was also an unknown part of the hijack plot, is a mother – so Sam tries to appeal to her nature. He also manages to tie up Stuart (Neil Maskell), meaning that Sam can take charge of the landing.

Meanwhile, the teams on the ground are struggling to figure out what the best outcome for Flight KA29 would be now that OCG leaders Edgar and John have been released from prison. The counterterrorism team and foreign minister (Hattie Morahan) discuss deploying two typhoons to take down the plane before it reaches London.

British air traffic control operator Alice (Eve Myles) is growing increasingly concerned at the plane’s dangerously low fuel levels and through her peer’s efforts of trying to contact passenger’s phones, Sam answers one of the teenage girl’s phones and he finally can talk to Alice on the phone. Alice’s sole intention is to help Sam and the passengers land the plane safely but with Amanda’s unguessable actions, nobody knows what her plan is or why she’s been employed.

Out in the English countryside, John is growing more anxious as he knows the police will be able to find them hiding out soon and is keen to shut down the stocks sooner rather than later. The plan all along has been to plummet Kingdom Airlines’ stock price in order to bet against the airline’s declining stock price but Edgar is keen to wait it out till the plane crashes.

One of the unexpected twists of the finale comes when John tells Edgar they should leave, but Edgar tells them to stay put, leading John to order the other mystery OCG member they’re with that they’re “doing this early”. It seemed to be a pre-arranged order that leads him to go behind Edgar and shoot him dead. As he and John drive away, we see Edgar’s phone flash up with text messages from Amanda asking him why he’s not answering her.

Back on the plane, there’s a major conflict of opinion as passengers grow more angry and desperate to either confront Amanda or take matters into their own hands. Sam manages to use a phone to call Amanda in the cockpit and she eventually lets Sam in, who also has Alison on the phone, who guides them in landing the plane.

Why was Amanda involved in the hijack?

We also find out that Alec (Justin Salinger) is involved in the operation as the OCG have his family, and he explains to Sam that the criminal group would have done the same with Amanda, taking her family hostage so that she does exactly what they say.

He explains that the group wanted the guns brought on board and he agreed to do it because they threatened to shoot his partner. Alec explains that he’s a trader, the one that did the insider trading deal with Devlin to ensure the Kingdom Airlines stock plummets. He says that the hijack was originally supposed to end when the plane gets over London, but doesn’t understand why nothing’s happened.

But of course, it’s because Edgar has now been killed and is obviously unable to reply to Amanda’s stressed messages asking what to do. Amanda tells Sam and the passengers that she’s supposed to wait for a message to land, which signals that the money has been obtained from the deal. But if she doesn’t get the text message, she was told to crash the plane in the centre of London.

Amanda’s family has been threatened and so she’s at odds with what to do – although she doesn’t want to harm anyone else, she’s conflicted about whether to crash the plane or not to save her family.

Was Sam’s son Kai killed?

Hijack - Jude Cudjoe

Apple TV+

In the background of the finale is the fact that Kai, who went to his father’s apartment to surprise him after his flight, has now been found by the two Cheapside Firm ‘cleaners’ in Sam’s place.

Concerned about her son’s whereabouts, Marsha (Christine Adams) calls Daniel (Max Beesley) and remembers the strange call she received asking for her to confirm Sam’s address. Daniel soon leaves his post out in the countryside where they were tailing Edgar and John to drive back to London to find Kai.

Daniel calls Kai’s phone and the men allow him to take the call, with Kai managing to tell Daniel an obscure message about riding the bike he was on this morning to come back home. Of course, he’s referring to the exercise bike in his mother’s house, signalling to Daniel that all is not well.

Daniel soon arrives at Sam’s apartment block and manages to get the fire alarm set off, meaning there has to be an entire building evacuation. Once they eventually come out, armed police surround them and arrest them, with Kai and Daniel reuniting safely.

Does Flight KA29 land safely in London?

Amanda, who we learn is an accomplished pilot, is still emotional and unable to help because she’s scared of the OCG killing her family back in the UK or now facing a future in prison. Alison manages to patch through the Home Secretary Neil Walsh (Neil Stuke) to the call, who tells Amanda that she will face no charges.

With fuel levels getting even lower and the plane getting closer to London, Amanda lands the plane, but it’s a tense watch as passengers are forced to brace, houses are very closely skimmed over and the landing is more of a fiery crash than anything. But she does it and the plane does manage to land safely, albeit on fire and tearing up the tarmac of the runway.

Emergency services meet the plane almost immediately back on the ground with armed police and firefighters putting out the fire that resulted from the landing.

Sam goes back onto the plane to retrieve the Gucci present we saw him with in Dubai airport, but it turns out that he should’ve just left the luxury gift as Stuart is waiting for him, armed with two guns. It’s a tense face-off but ultimately, Sam manages to trick Stuart with a call from his own phone, which leads him out in to the open part of the plane and is swiftly arrested by armed officers.

The final shot is of Sam finally making his way out of the plane.

James Hibbs <![CDATA[Sacha Dhawan gave away Doctor Who Master role early to Steven Moffat]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1866104 2023-08-02T07:01:07Z 2023-08-02T07:00:12Z

There aren’t many shows which strive to keep their casting a secret as much as Doctor Who: Roles are usually announced months after the actors find out they’ve got the parts, and it can be a struggle for them to keep things under wraps.

One star who managed it was Sacha Dhawan, whose surprise casting as The Master was kept airtight right up until his first episode aired.

However, it turns out he actually did let the secret slip to one former showrunner – Mr Steven Moffat.

Speaking with RadioTimes.com exclusively about his new show Wolf, Dhawan recalled a dinner he had with Moffat, where he accidentally gave away the big reveal.

He said: “I do remember when I was doing Doctor Who and I was quite new to stepping into the universe, as it were, and I went for dinner with Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue for Dracula – before we started filming, we just had a little meal. And for some reason I assumed that Steven was still attached to Doctor Who.”

He continued: “And I said, ‘Oh, you know, I’m playing this character who’s got this tissue compression eliminator,’ and I could see in Steven’s face, he went, ‘Are you playing The Master?’

Read more:

“And I got absolutely told off because it was supposed to be a secret. I just assumed that Steven was still part of the show, and I realised he wasn’t on it anymore and I’d given away one of the biggest secrets.

“As I said it to him on the day, I knew something, because I could tell by his face he just was like, ‘Oh, my God.’ I was like, ‘He’s got such a huge reaction to that, why?’ I’d just given away the biggest secret.”

Dhawan isn’t the only cast member to admit to a slip-up when trying to keep a lid on his casting – Ncuti Gatwa, who will play the Fifteenth Doctor, revealed earlier this year that he found keeping the secret “very difficult“, and that he would “often get a little tipsy in Soho House, make a new best friend in the bathroom, tell them and run off”.

Dhawan recently teased that he is “involved in a few things that I can’t talk about” when it comes to Doctor Who.

Could he be returning to face off against Gatwa’s Doctor? Only time will tell.

Patrick Cremona <![CDATA[David Tennant on returning to Macbeth: ‘It’s thrilling and a bit scary’]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1866794 2023-08-02T06:01:35Z 2023-08-02T06:00:50Z

TV fans are eagerly awaiting David Tennant’s return to Doctor Who for the 60th-anniversary specials later this year – but that’s not the only role the actor is reprising in the near future.

Tennant will take to the stage at London’s Donmar Warehouse in December to play Macbeth, having previously voiced the Scottish King in a BBC Sounds adaption of the iconic Shakespeare play last year.

Speaking about playing the role on stage, the star has described the prospect as “thrilling and a little bit scary”.

“I’m really excited about it,” he explained during an interview with Variety.

“It’s been a while since I’ve done Shakespeare. It’s very thrilling but equally — and this analogy probably doesn’t stretch — it’s like when someone prepares for an Olympic event.

“It does feel like a bit of a mountain and, yeah, you’re daring to set yourself up against some fairly worthy competition from down the years. That’s both the challenge and the horror of doing these types of things.”

Tennant also praised “great director” Max Webster, who previously helmed the West End production of Life of Pi, explaining that “he’s full of big ideas”.

He concluded: “It’s going to be exciting, thrilling, and a little bit scary. I’m just going to take a deep breath.”

Tennant is well-versed in the world of Shakespeare, having performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company on numerous occasions – notably including the 2008 production of Hamlet which was later adapted into a BBC Two TV film.

Other Shakespeare credits on his CV include Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Lysander/Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, and the title character in Richard II.

Morgan Jeffery <![CDATA[Doctor Who missing episodes are “out there”, says TV archive boss]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1866721 2023-08-02T06:01:06Z 2023-08-02T06:00:14Z

The head of TV archive Kaleidoscope has suggested that ‘missing’ episodes of Doctor Who are known to still exist, but remain in private collections.

Out of 253 episodes from the show’s first six years, 97 remain lost in their original form, due to the BBC’s policy of junking archive programming between 1967 and 1978.

As a result, numerous adventures of the First Doctor (played by William Hartnell) and the Second Doctor (played by Patrick Troughton) are either incomplete or missing in their entirety.

However, speaking to RadioTimes.com, Chris Perry – CEO of the TV archive Kaleidoscope – said it is “very likely” that more lost episodes will be recovered in the future.

“We know where there is missing Doctor Who out there but the owners won’t return it at the moment,” he revealed.

“Every year we find 50-70 lost programmes, some famous titles and internationally known names and others not, but significant examples of regional television output, for example.”

Perry pointed to the recent recovery of previously missing episodes of Fraggle Rock, the 1980s series from Jim Henson, as evidence that Kaleidoscope’s mission of recovering and restoring ‘lost’ archive TV continues to bear fruit.

Alternative versions of Fraggle Rock aired in different countries, and all episodes of the British version – which featured specially-shot live-action inserts not available in other countries – were believed to have been wiped in the 1990s.

“Kaleidoscope has recovered all of the British versions of Fraggle Rock – half are in our archive and half at the BFI National Archive,” Perry explained.

Kaleidoscope was founded in 1987 and since 1995 has worked in partnership with the BFI on its Missing Believed Wiped initiative to recover, restore and return British television to the archives.

Alongside a screening of newly-colourised Doctor Who clips, the BFI’s next annual Missing Believed Wiped event at BFI Southbank on 5th August will also showcase the rediscovered Fraggle Rock footage, a previously-unheard interview with Jeremy Brett (star of ITV’s Sherlock Holmes series, which aired from 1984 to 1994), and the unaired pilot for Up the Toga, a US version of Frankie Howerd sitcom Up Pompeii!, made in 1972 and believed lost for decades.

James Hibbs <![CDATA[Sacha Dhawan reveals Doctor Who Rasputin dance wasn’t scripted]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1866011 2023-08-01T21:01:06Z 2023-08-01T21:00:10Z

WARNING – CONTAINS MILD SPOILERS FOR WOLF

Following his reappearance as The Master in Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor Who swan song last year, Sacha Dhawan is now starring in Wolf, a BBC thriller series in which he plays the dangerous, threatening and mysterious character Honey.

In tonight’s second episode, he and his colleague Molina tied up Juliet Stevenson’s character Matilda Anchor-Ferrers by her ankles, with Honey proceeding to do a dance around her with a sword to Largo al factotum from opera The Barber of Seville.

While two very different scenes, the sequence does bring to mind another memorable moment of Dhawan’s – The Master’s dance to Boney M’s Rasputin in The Power of the Doctor.

RadioTimes.com caught up with Dhawan exclusively and asked whether the dance in Wolf also reminded him of the Doctor Who scene.

He said: “It did. People are gonna think, ‘God, he just dances in all his scenes.’ Interestingly, with the Rasputin scene, for some reason, I must have read somewhere that he dances, and the truth of the matter is it wasn’t even written in the script, I misinterpreted it.

Dhawan continued: “So they must have been thinking on the day like, ‘What the hell is he doing? Well, this is kind of what he does, so we’ll just go with it.’

“But hand on heart I thought that was written in the script. So I think I danced for about five, six minutes. They must have been thinking, ‘What the hell is he doing?'”

Dhawan previously teased that Wolf isn’t what viewers will think it is, calling the series “a very kind of dark story, but full of twists and turns”.

He continued: “I’m really excited for people to see it. It’s not quite what people think it’s going to be. And it’s great that the BBC are doing something like this.”

Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) came face-to-face with an image of his biological father for the first time in tonight’s EastEnders (1st August), but his happiness is destined to be short-lived.

The youngster reignited his plan to track down his dad this week, much to the panic of his aunt Kat (Jessie Wallace), who refused to allow him to find out the truth.

Freddie’s mum Little Mo (Kacey Ainsworth) got pregnant as a result of rape, and the man responsible was Graham Foster (Alex McSweeney, who reprises his role this week).

Tonight, Freddie began his one-man mission, with Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) looking worried as they knew the full story but couldn’t share it.

Kat avoided the subject, but eventually lied to Freddie that his mum had an affair while married to Billy.

Kat urged Freddie not to ask Little Mo about it, as it would be sure to upset her. At least this part of the story was true, as Kat confided in Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) that Little Mo continues to struggle with reminders of her attacker to this day.

Jean’s partner Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) suggested that Freddie had a right to know, but Kat understandably couldn’t bear to betray her sister’s trust.

When Freddie called his mum, meanwhile, he decided not to mention that he was looking for his father.

But when Kat’s son Tommy (Sonny Kendall) overheard her saying Graham’s full name, Tommy revealed this crucial detail to Freddie, who searched online and discovered a car dealership where Graham worked.

As Freddie found a photo of Graham, he beamed, filled with joy to have found him. But will anyone fill Freddie in on what Graham did before he meets him?

Louise Griffin <![CDATA[How Terry Pratchett’s legacy lives on with Good Omens]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1861223 2023-08-01T16:51:06Z 2023-08-01T16:50:21Z Interviews with actors featured in this article took place prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

One night in a hotel room in Seattle in the early 1990s, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, who co-wrote the novel Good Omens, made a plan for how they would bring their beloved tale to TV.

Almost three decades later and, tragically, four years after Pratchett’s death, season 1 of the TV adaptation starring David Tennant as demon Crowley and Michael Sheen as angel Aziraphale, premiered on Prime Video to widespread acclaim.

Fans pored over every scene and quickly noticed the many references and homages to Pratchett – from his hat and scarf taking pride of place in Aziraphale’s bookshop to how his wishes were honoured in the scripts.

With the release of season 2, it’s clear that Pratchett’s presence is still felt, in some cases, quite literally.

Terry Pratchett’s representative on Earth

While his close friend and collaborator Gaiman was kept very in the loop with Pratchett’s wishes, he also has a representative in Rob Wilkins who worked first as the author’s personal assistant and later as his business manager.

Nowadays, Wilkins has the title of Pratchett’s “representative on Earth”, making completely sure that the author’s wishes are being honoured. Early on in production, he’s sent every script and he’s present on set to talk things through with Gaiman.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com, Wilkins explains: “If I said I was here to make sure Terry’s voice was heard, that’s wrong because Terry’s voice is here, it’s everywhere. My presence is Terry’s presence and that’s what I bring to the set.”

He adds: “He would be most proud of the detail and the love that is compressed into this that everybody puts into it and it’s lovely to see that everybody respects the written word and here we are turning the written word into this.”

“Neil makes sure Terry’s voice is heard every single day through the scripts, it’s fantastic,” Wilkins continues. “In the build-up [to production], in the script-writing process, I speak with Neil probably every other day and he wants to share what he’s doing and tell you where the story’s going and where the narrative is going.

“Neil and Terry, they plotted out in a hotel room in Seattle in the early 1990s, they shared a room together and they talked about what would happen next. There’s definitely a story arc and Neil would actually kill me in my sleep if I was to let on too much but there’s a definite story arc for Aziraphale and Crowley and we’ve got to see that to the end, we have to.”

The homages on set

Taking us through the Dirty Donkey pub on set, which plays a key part in season 2, Wilkins also shows us one of his favourite details – a portrait of Pratchett which takes pride of place.

“Witchfinder General Pratchett!” he declares. “With a brandy in his hand, a hat on his head. That’s how he should be. That was a surprise. I didn’t know that was happening until it was there and it’s really quite emotional, so Terry’s not just here in spirit, he’s actually here.”

Terry Pratchett's hat and scarf on the set of Good Omens

It’s not just the portrait in the pub – Pratchett is everywhere on set if you look for him.

Fans are well aware of his hat and scarf, which are proudly displayed in Aziraphale’s bookshop on a hat stand. Set designer Michael Ralph tells us: “This is Terry’s hat and Terry’s scarf. Everyday we film here it’s left in the shop, and it’s always put in a safe at night. But it’s always there.”

There are smaller references too. In the coffee shop, Give Me Coffee…Or Give Me Death, producer Sarah-Kate Fenelon points out, amid a sea of graffiti, the names Neil and Terry scrawled side-by-side.

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's names on the Good Omens set
Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s names on the Good Omens set

“Season 2 was based on a sequel that Terry and Neil were meant to write, or planned on writing, and a character that is in the television series, in season 1, Gabriel played by Jon Hamm was not originally in the book ever,” she pointed out.

“So already the seeds were being planted for following his storyline through. And I think that’s a nice continuity to kind of see Terry’s story is still being told in some way.”

A word from the stars

David Tennant and Maggie Service, two of the stars of Good Omens, have also shared how Pratchett was honoured on the set of season 2.

Crowley actor David Tennant explained to The Radio Times Podcast: “Neil is a direct line to Terry. There are ideas in series 2 that Neil and Terry discussed way back as a potential way forward for these characters.

“There are more of those ideas that Neil has still got in his back pocket to potentially take the story even further. So it’s not entirely adrift from the original source material and, indeed, we’ve got 50% of the original writing team as our writing team.”

Speaking about how important it is that Pratchett’s presence is felt, Service added to RadioTimes.com: “Yeah, he’s always around. Again, the first day of filming around the monitors was his hat on his chair, so – it’s giving me goosebumps! He was there and he is there.

“It’s extraordinary. I never got the chance to meet him, but Rob Wilkins, who’s his official representative on Earth – that is his classic, brilliant, perfect title – he’s just really aware of making sure that Terry is a part of it.”

She added: “It was Neil and Terry’s universe in the beginning, they created it together and now we only have Neil, who is made of magic, so it’s pretty good – there’s no undersell here – but it’s important that it’s always both of their worlds because, just what a magnificent thing to put those two brains together. Aren’t we all lucky?”

Grace Henry <![CDATA[Why Love Island’s Whitney and Lochan coming second isn’t a bad thing]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1866765 2023-08-01T16:41:06Z 2023-08-01T16:41:06Z

On Monday 31st July, fans watched as Jess Harding and Sammy Root were crowned as the Love Island season 10 winners.

While pleased for Jess, who has definitely been a trooper on this year’s Love Island, many were shocked to see former public favourites Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki come in second place, after fans predicted that the couple would win by a landslide.

In an exclusive RadioTimes.com poll, 57.4 per cent voted Whitney and Lochan as this year’s winners, with Tyrique Hyde and Ella Thomas behind them in second place with 20.3 per cent of the votes.

Only 12.3 per cent of fans thought Jess and Sammy would win, given that the couple had previously been in the bottom three on multiple occasions, and had explored other connections (although that was mostly Sammy).

Following the final results, many took to Twitter to air their confusion, with some accusing Whitney and Lochan of “being robbed” of the winning title.

But Whitney and Lochan not winning season 10 might not actually be such a bad thing.

From previous years, we know that it’s usually the runner-ups that go on to achieve great success within their careers, and their relationships outside of the show.

Take Love Island sensation Molly-Mae Hague, who is arguably the biggest star to come out of the ITV2 dating show.

Molly and her partner Tommy Fury finished as runner-ups to Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea back in 2019. However, outside of the show is where the true winnings came for the couple.

Not only are Molly and Tommy now engaged after four years together, the couple welcomed their first child – a baby girl named Bambi – in January 2023.

As well as this, their careers have gone from strength-to-strength. Following the show, Molly served as a brand ambassador for Pretty Little Thing, and in August 2021, she was hired as the firm’s creative director, reportedly earning £400,000 per month.

She recently stepped down from this role, but will appear in Netflix’s At Home with the Furys this August 2023, alongside Tommy, his older brother, heavy weight champion of the world Tyson Fury, and family.

And Molly isn’t the only runner-up to have achieved great success since the show. While season two winners Nathan Massey and Cara De La Hoyde are still very much together and married with children, their runners-up, Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen, are doing just as well!

The couple who met in 2016 are now married and have a son, Abel Jacob, who was born in June 2022.

As well as this, they’ve gone on to sign numerous brand deals and even featured in their own TLC reality series, Olivia and Alex Said Yes, in which they documented their engagement and life in their £1 million Essex home, where they live with their two French Bulldogs, Winnie and Reggie.

Similarly, season three runners-up Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt have gone on to do great things since appearing on Love Island. The couple lost to Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies (who sadly split five months after the final), but have been winning at life ever since.

They have two children together – Nell, two, and Nora, six months – and got married in September 2021. As well as this, former explosive ordnance disposal specialist Camilla has dedicated her time to important causes since leaving the show, from joining women’s rights marches to working with the Choose Love non-profit organisation.

Fans were left shocked at Tyrique and Ella coming third, but the couple need not worry either, as third place is also not a bad place to be.

Just look at Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope, who came third in 2022. They lost to Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, who recently called time on their romance.

Dami and Indiyah are still together and recently celebrated their one-year anniversary.

Additionally, Indiyah signed a deal as Pretty Little Thing’s first marketplace ambassador, and she’s also bagged herself a pretty good stint working alongside Love Island host Maya Jama and reality TV star Sam Thompson on Love Island: Aftersun.

She also co-hosts the Love Island: Morning After podcast with Sam, which all sounds like a win if you ask me!

So, while Whitney and Lochan may not have bagged the £50,000 cash prize, the couple could still have a very bright future ahead of them, if these past success stories are anything to go by.

Love Island will return to ITV2 and ITVX in 2024. Seasons 1-10 are available to watch on ITVX. You can watch all previous seasons of Love Island on BritBox – you can sign up for a 7-day free trial.

Netflix is removing a large selection of movies and TV shows in August.

While this is nothing new, with the streamer getting rid of titles from its library every month thanks to the expiration of licensing agreements, the removal of one title in particular this August has left users scratching their heads.

Netflix originals typically remain on the streamer, but this appears not to be the case for The Power of the Dog, which is amongst the list of shows and films being removed in August.

Boasting masterful direction from Jane Campion, brilliant performances from the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst, and an epic score from Johnny Greenwood, The Power of the Dog garnered 27.2 million viewing hours on the streamer to finish as the No. 1 English-language film on Netflix worldwide for the week of 19th November – 5th December, and is also a Best Picture Oscar nominee.

So, when is the film leaving Netflix and why is it being removed? Read on for everything you need to know.

When is The Power of the Dog leaving Netflix?

Netflix’s page for The Power of the Dog notes that the last day to watch the film is 18th August, 2023.

The film is expected to remain on Netflix in the US, where it’s not listed on the August removals for the streamer.

The film is leaving Netflix because the streamer is not the sole distributor of the film, with BBC Films having co-produced the movie.

In this respect, it seems likely that the film could land on BBC iPlayer following its removal from Netflix, but this is yet to be confirmed.

BBC Films-backed horror series His House recently befell the same fate. After originally landing as a Netflix Original, the series was taken down and added to BBC iPlayer.

In the meantime, the film is available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray.

James Hibbs <![CDATA[Is Wolf based on a book?]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1866894 2023-08-01T17:02:02Z 2023-08-01T16:29:30Z

New series Wolf may, on its surface, be a detective drama, introducing us to DI Jack Caffery who is trying to come to terms with his traumatic past – however, it is also so much more.

The series, based in both London and Wales, blends genres including thriller, horror, crime and even some comedy, while telling two parallel stories.

While one follows Sacha Dhawan and Iwan Rheon‘s mysterious characters and the Anchor-Ferrers family played by Juliet Stevenson, Owen Teale and Annes Elwy, the other stars Ukweli Roach as Jack.

But is the series a wholly original story or is it based on a book? Read on for everything you need to know about the basis for the BBC series Wolf.

Is Wolf based on a book?

Wolf
Wolf.
BBC

It is. Wolf is based on the book of the same name by Mo Hayder, which was released in 2014.

Wolf was the last novel of Mo Hayder’s released before her death in 2021. One more novel of Hayder’s has since been released in 2022, published under the pseudonym Theo Clare. Another Theo Clare novel is expected this year, but neither of these are related to or in the same series as Wolf.

Are there more novels in the Jack Caffery series?

BBC/Hartswood Films Ltd/James Pardon

There are, but because Wolf is the last novel in the Jack Caffery series, all of them precede the story told in the BBC series.

There are six other novels in the Jack Caffery series, with the first having been released in 2000.

You can find the full list of Jack Caffery novels by Mo Hayder here:

 1. Birdman (2000)
 2. The Treatment (2001)
 3. Ritual (2008)
 4. Skin (2009)
 5. Gone (2010)
 6. Poppet (2013)
 7. Wolf (2014)

Will another of the Jack Caffery novels be adapted for Wolf season 2?

BBC/Hartswood Films Ltd/James Pardon

At this point no announcement has been made regarding the future of Wolf beyond this first season.

If a second season were to be confirmed, it is unclear at this time whether it would tell a brand-new story from writer and creator Megan Gallagher or whether it would adapt one of Mo Hayder’s previous novels and edit the chronology so it fits in after Wolf.

Gallagher previously said that it’s “not often you’re handed a world like the one Mo Hayder built” and that “getting to play around in what she created has genuinely been the highlight of my career”. Does that means she’d be interested in coming back for a second season?

For now we will just have to wait and see whether there is more from Ukweli Roach’s Jack Caffery on the cards.

Wolf is available to stream in full now on BBC iPlayer. Looking for something else to watch? Visit our TV Guide and Streaming Guide or take a look at the rest of our Drama coverage.

*Warning – contains full spoilers for all six episodes of Wolf.*

Thriller series Wolf is now available on BBC iPlayer, and while those familiar with the Jack Caffery novels by Mo Hayder on which the show was based may have seen some of the twists coming, for others the series is likely to be full of surprises.

The Wales-based series is a twisting, turning road from start to finish, with big reveals both for our hero Jack, as played by Ukweli Roach, and also for the rest of the characters played by the likes of Sacha Dhawan and Iwan Rheon.

So, if you’ve already made your way through all six episodes, just how did Wolf come to an end? Who were the Donkey Pitch killers? And what did Jack discover about his brother’s disappearance?

Read on for everything you need to know about the ending of Wolf on BBC One, but beware – there are full spoilers from here on out.

Who was Honey?

In episode 4, it was revealed that Honey was not one of the Donkey Pitch killers as he had previously claimed – he wasn’t a killer at all.

In fact, he was an out of work actor, with a pregnant wife waiting for him at home. It is suggested that he has done this sort of work for hire before and he has told her that he is on a marketing trip.

He is simply holding the Anchor-Ferrers family captive and torturing them because he has been paid to do so, with no intention of killing them or seriously maiming them. In fact, after being given a callback for a part in a commercial, he decides to focus on acting and make this his last job.

He believes that he and Molina were both hired by the same anonymous boss, who gave them both a pack of specific instructions, including the names they should use. However, that’s not quite the case…

Who was the Donkey Pitch killer?

It turns out that, as Jack theorised, the Donkey Pitch murders weren’t committed by just one killer, but by two – Molina and Lucia Anchor-Ferrers!

The Molina reveal is made at the end of episode 5, when Honey finds the body of housekeeper Becca in the basement of the Anchor-Ferrers family.

Molina then revealed his true colours, explaining that he’d killed Becca to stop her from coming to the house (and as his warm-up for killing the family) and had been messing with Honey throughout, moving things and making him feel they were being watched.

He was the one who had hired Honey and had given them their identities for the job based on two real detectives – who had, coincidentally, shown up at the house in episode 5!

He had committed the Donkey Pitch murders and was now terrorising the family. However, he wasn’t working alone.

We later found out that the Anchor-Ferrers’s daughter Lucia had been mentally disturbed from a young age, destroying the family’s garden and killing a cat.

Psychiatrists told Oliver and Matilda that Lucia could be treated from home, but they chose to send her to a mental institution, where she went on to meet Molina. The pair struck up a relationship and Lucia came back, in Oliver’s words, “ten times worse”.

Once out of the institution, Molina had taken up the identity of Bones, wearing a hazmat suit and gas mask, throwing murderous, gory raves and dealing drugs, including to Hugo and Sophie.

After she was bullied and abused by Hugo and Sophie, locked in a cage and branded with a hot poker, Lucia joined Molina in his Bones costume and the pair brutally murdered and disembowelled Hugo and Sophie, with Minnet Kable taking the wrap.

DI Lincoln had let Kable take the wrap despite knowing he must be innocent, because he had admitted to her that he was a paedophile who used to sit and watch children in the playground at a local school.

Oliver had always had a suspicion that Lucia was involved in the Donkey Pitch murders after he saw her leaving the house that night. However, he kept it quiet, even from Matilda.

Why did the Anchor-Ferrers family get taken captive?

In the end, the Anchor-Ferrers family were taken captive for two reasons – the first was that so Molina could get Oliver to transfer him all of the family’s accessible money, with Lucia knowing that she wouldn’t be the one to get it in the will. It would all be going to her more successful and grounded brother instead.

The other reason was pure spite – Lucia wanted to murder them for sending her away and for “ruining everything”. In the end, Jack deduced that the part Lucia enjoyed was the torture, just as she had mentally tortured Sophie and Hugo for weeks before killing them.

What happened to Honey, Oliver and Matilda?

Having discovered just who Molina was and how unhinged he could be, Honey knew he had to get away from the house for his own safety – however, before he left, a final stab of conscience meant he tried to save the Anchor-Ferrers family.

He tried to explain the situation to Matilda Anchor-Ferrers as he untied her, but his behaviour throughout had her believing Molina was the less evil of the two, and this must be some sort of mind-game from Honey.

As Honey untied her, she sliced his throat with an unwound coat hanger, killing him almost instantly.

Oliver then died after his heart gave out, following his recent transplant, his lack of access to his medication and the repeated trauma, including his final realisation that Lucia had been behind everything.

In the end, Matilda managed to survive. She escaped onto the roof and tried to get away and Jack subsequently found her. After a period where it seemed that Matilda would fall from the roof trying to get away from Jack, believing him to be another trick by Molina, she eventually let him save her.

What happened to Molina and Lucia?

Having cracked the case and realising that Lucia was one of the Donkey Pitch killers, Jack visited the home, hoping to free Matilda and Oliver Anchor-Ferrers. When he got there, he was greeted by Molina, pretending to Kiernan, Lucia’s brother.

Jack soon realised what was happening and a scuffle ensued, in which Jack killed Molina by strangling him with a rope. He then confronted Lucia, who pretended to be suicidal and in danger of jumping out the window. However, while gloating she slipped, plummeting to her death.

Having discovered a note Oliver wrote confessing to his daughter’s crimes and his own knowledge of them, Jack decided to destroy it – those who were guilty were both dead and would no longer see any justice, but by keeping it a secret, Minnet Kable would stay behind bars and wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone.

What did Jack discover about his brother?

Jack Caffrey (Ukweli Roach) in Wolf, leaning on some railings

BBC/Hartswood Films Ltd/James Pardon

With the case cracked, Jack visited the Walking Man who had set him on it once again, looking for information regarding his brother and the man he believes murdered him, Ivan Penderecki.

The Walking Man told him what he had discovered – Penderecki had been stalking Jack’s brother prior to abducting him and would have kidnapped him whether they had had a fight or not. Jack was in no way to blame for what happened to his brother.

Jack went home and tore down the playhouse in view of Penderecki, proving he was past keeping it as a monument and blaming himself.

Back at the police station, a discovery was made. A DNA match for Jack’s brother proves that he wasn’t killed in 1998 as Jack suspected, but was alive until at least 2004 – and could still be alive to this day.

A new season is always something to get excited about with ever-changing games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Last year’s remake of the 2009 classic has a continuing narrative, with a new story and fresh lore dropping every season. And this is on top of the other perks and goodies.

With season 5 about to arrive, are you wondering what really happened to Commander Phillip Graves after that action-packed finale? Or do you only really care about things like weapons, maps, and modes?

We’ll share all we know about the next season of Modern Warfare 2 below, including its release date.

When is the CoD MW2 season 5 release date?

It was revealed in a blog post from Activision that Warzone season 5 will release on Wednesday 2nd August.

What is the UK launch time for CoD MW2 season 5?

And as for the time, the game will drop at 5pm BST.

Wherever you are in the world, the game will drop at the same time. So for other zones, that’s 12pm EDT and 9am PDT.

What to expect from CoD MW2 season 5

(Spoilers for the Modern Warfare 2 campaign below)

A quick look at the Call of Duty blog tells us that Commander Phillip Graves survived, and he has intel on a huge new threat: the Konni Group. It looks like we’ll be taking them on to eliminate the pressing chemical weapon threat.

It appears that there will be four new maps at launch, too. These maps are Punta Mar, Strike, Lounge, and Canal.

There will also be a new multiplayer mode called Havoc which, according to the official blog, is “inspired by classic arena-shooter gameplay, then further enhanced with the injection of a random selection of frenzy-inducing modifiers.” We’re certainly excited to get stuck into the roguelike mode!

There will also be new weapons, new events (including a hip-hop celebration with Snoop Dog), and, of course, skins. See you on the battlefield!

A representative of Boris Johnson has said that there is no truth to claims he’s in talks to enter the jungle for the 2023 series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

The former Prime Minister had been linked to an appearance on the long-running ITV reality series, but a spokesperson for Johnson categorically denied the rumours.

“Boris is not doing this programme and is not in talks to do so,” the spokesperson told The Mirror.

Johnson’s stint as PM ended with his resignation in July 2022. He stood down as Conservative MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip in June 2023, shortly before the investigation into the Partygate scandal found that he had deliberately misled parliament.

Had he taken part in I’m a Celeb, he would have been following in the footsteps of his father Stanley Johnson who took part in 2017, and former Cabinet Minister Matt Hancock – who served as Health Secretary under Johnson and came third in last year’s season.

RadioTimes.com has contacted Johnson’s rep and ITV for any further comment on this story.

Read more:

At this stage, no one has been confirmed for this year’s run of I’m a Celebrity, but a number of famous faces have been rumoured including Coronation Street star Alan Halsall and This Morning’s Josie Gibson.

A number of other big names are likely to be added to the rumour mill between now and the start date later in 2023 – and we’ll report all the latest news as and when it arrives.

Last year’s season was won by former England international footballer Jill Scott after she beat Hollyoaks star Owen Warner and Hancock in the final.

The Crucible

The Crucible
National Theatre Live

Following a run at the National Theatre, The Crucible is now running in London’s West End. The Gielgud Theatre is hosting the play based on 17th-century witch trials in New England. Playwright Arthur Miller interpreted the witch trials through the lens of 1950s McCarthyism in the United States, which saw a government persecution of those accused of being communists.

The play has a limited run starting on Wednesday 7th June and concluding on Saturday 2nd September.

The Pillowman Play

It’s been two decades in the making, but Martin McDonagh’s Olivier award-winning play is finally in a West End theatre, and it has an all-star cast, too, with Lily Allen and Steve Pemberton. The Pillowman plot is a spooky one: it’s about a writer who’s questioned about a string of bizarre murders as the murders share similarities to the writer’s stories… Age guidance is 14+ for this play, unsurprisingly.

What time do West End shows start and finish?

Like with the price, this depends entirely on the show, and whether you’ve got a matinee or evening performance. Most shows run for two hours to two and a half hours, with a 15-minute interval. A matinee performance usually starts at 2:30pm, whereas the evening performances will begin around 7:30pm.

What is the easiest way to get to the West End?

Travelling to the West End when you live outside of London can seem like a mean feat. But we’re here to reassure you that it can be done with minimal faff and on a budget, too.

Train timetables are usually released 12 weeks in advance, and train operators put cheap train tickets on sale shortly afterwards. The nearer your travel date, the more expensive the train tickets will be, so be sure to snap-up tickets as soon as possible.

Railcards are also a great way to save a couple of quid on your travel — 1/3 of the total ticket fare to be precise. Find the right Railcard for you at Trainline.

If you live too far away from London to comfortably travel there and back in one day, and let’s face it, a lot of us do, you may want to consider an overnight stay. Airbnb offers private rooms and entire homes all across London, so you’re bound to find somewhere that fits your budget.

What are the best seats in a theatre?

If money is no object, you might as well spend a bit more to get closer to the action at a West End show. However, with all the different parts of the auditorium, it can be tricky to know where to select seats which guarantee the best viewing experience; so we’ve done the difficult work for you.

Here’s the breakdown of all the seats in a theatre, and where to sit for maximum viewing enhancement.

The Stalls are considered the best seats in the house as they’re on the ground floor and closest to the stage. In a lot of West End theatres, there will be rows and rows of ground-floor seats, so you can choose to be on the front row, somewhere in the middle, or right at the back; the closer you are to the stage, the pricier your seats will be.

The Dress Circle, sometimes referred to as the Royal Circle, is the next level up from the ground floor. The Dress Circle gives audience members an advantage as they can see what’s happening across the whole stage — something that people in the stalls might not be able to do, particularly for props or characters at the back of the stage.

Next up is the Upper Circle, also called the Grand Circle. This is another level up again, and will be one of the cheaper theatre tickets available (unless the theatre has a Balcony which not many of them do). You’ll be able to see everything on the stage, however, you may miss finer details, such as an actor’s facial expression.

The cheapest seats in the house are Restricted View. All theatres will sell tickets for what they deem a ‘restricted view’. However, as we mentioned earlier, one of our RadioTimes.com team went to see Wicked with their mum, and the supposedly ‘restricted’ view was anything but. We can’t guarantee this will be the case in all theatres, though, and you may find your view obstructed by a safety rail or a pillar.

Sitting in a box is an excellent way to make your trip to the theatre even more memorable. Typically located on the same level as the Dress Circle, a box can be hired out for just you and your party, which means you get perks like strangers not squeezing past you to go to the loo during a dramatic moment.

Rob Leane <![CDATA[Fortnite Doctor Who event: Rumours explained as more ‘leaks’ appear online]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1719780 2023-08-01T16:16:17Z 2023-08-01T16:01:32Z

There has been wild speculation of late about a Doctor Who event coming to Fortnite.

The rumours were a bit thin for a while, but now more detailed information has surfaced on Twitter (where else?).

The wild speculations have been spreading across the platform for a while, with various unofficial sources and leakers providing information.

This information has always been vague and unspecific, and the sources questionable to say the least. Now (we hope!) things look a bit more concrete.

Rumours like this have been around for a while. They’ve been circling ever since hype was building for the BBC centenary special. While nothing came of that, we hope it does now. It’s about time The Doctor came back to Fortnite.

How did rumours start about a Fortnite Doctor Who event?

The rumours about Fortnite and Doctor Who teaming up seem to have stemmed from Twitter, where a ‘leaker’ called iFireMonkey claims to have insider knowledge of the goings-on between the BBC and Epic Games.

This goes back to April this year, when iFireMonkey first brought to attention the possibility of a two week event. Check out that first tweet below:

That post encouraged fans to expect a “two week long event in game” that would feature “a set of free rewards for completing challenges” as well as paid cosmetics in the Item Shop. The tweet suggests that there could be two Doctor Who skins, two pickaxes, one glider and one emote in the Item Shop for the duration of the event.

The tweet also makes this claim: “There would also be a FREE Beep the Meep Spray as some sort of incentive for checking out the Creative map associated with this collaboration”. With Beep the Meep also rumoured to be in the new Doctor Who episodes, that does sound feasible!

However, this isn’t the end of the tweets. In fact, iFireMonkey revealed more info just yesterday.

What do the latest leaks add about the Fortnite Doctor Who event?

iFireMonkey tweeted on 31st July with details about when we can expect this event, as well as other insider details. Check it out below:

Disappointingly, it seems the 60th anniversary plans have been scrapped. And the reason it’s taking so long is, apparently, due to a collaboration with Lego in November.

Still, with a December/January release window, it looks like we won’t be waiting too long!

Another Twitter user, a prolific ‘leaker’ named FNBRintel, posted back in April about a number of claims about the rumoured Doctor Who event. And this account even seems to have some realistic-looking imagery to back up their statements.

FNBRintel claimed to have “received information about a Doctor Who collaboration coming to Fortnite”, adding immediately that this collab “will feature cosmetics alongside a Creative Event with its own tab in the lobby”.

That Creative mode event will apparently “take players between several planets” via the TARDIS, and it will also allegedly feature “a voice acted narrative”. The story seems to involve working for UNIT, collecting leads and detecting some sort of residual energy.

FNBRintel also reiterated that players who take part will be rewarded with a Beep the Meep spray in the game. They even seemed to have a screenshot of the spray and a menu page, which teases loads of other collectables including the Tenth Doctor’s 3D glasses!

In terms of weapons, FNBRintel believes there will be a “U.N.I.T Advanced Rifle that’ll have a player tracking feature” as well as a “Wrarth Warrior Cannon that’ll have a ‘Hold to Hurt’ mechanic”.

The image above even appears to show Fortnite character Peely on the Doctor’s Psychic Paper, alongside some detached Dalek arms (which could perhaps double up as pickaxes for players to use).

Looking at all of that, it’s hard to believe that someone would make it up and go to the effort of making all the visuals, but stranger things have happened. We’ll still take this all with a pinch of salt until the BBC or Epic Games outright confirms it through official channels.

When could the Fortnite Doctor Who event happen?

A new crossover between Doctor Who and Fortnite is yet to be confirmed by any official sources at this stage, but that won’t stop us from hazarding a guess as to when it could be coming out.

Let’s not forget the leak from iFireMonkey, who suggested a December or January release. As this isn’t far away from the show’s 60th anniversary in January, we reckon they could be onto something!

Will there be Fortnite Doctor Who skins?

So, what would a potential Doctor Who event in Fortnite actually include? One thing that fans would love to see is Doctor Who skins in Fortnite, of course. The current rumours seem to suggest there will be at least two skins in the potential event, and the obvious guesses there would be the incumbent David Tennant and incoming Ncuti Gatwa.

We’d love to see skins/outfits included for every Doctor, though, from William Hartnell all the way through to the modern era of Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa.

Here’s a fun idea, though: what if there was actually just one Doctor Who skin, with multiple different styles to choose from, each of which represents a different Doctor? We’d love to see that.

As the tweet above suggests, we’d also love to see a TARDIS glider and a series of Doctor Who emotes and accessories. A back bling based on the Time Beetle from Turn Left, perhaps?

Are the Doctor Who Fortnite rumours true?

That’s the million-dollar question! As is always the case with leaks and rumours, we cannot say for sure how much of this will turn out to be true. However, we would say that the core idea of a Doctor Who Fortnite event sounds very feasible.

Doctor Who has embraced the gaming world plenty of times over the years, after all, with a Fortnite Creative map in 2022 being the closest thing yet to an all-out event in Fortnite. That marketing event did not touch the main battle royale mode in Fortnite, though.

Very recently, a mobile game called Doctor Who: An Unlikely Heist came to Apple Arcade, and there are other games like The Lonely Assassins and The Edge of Reality in recent memory, as well. So, it does seem like the current BBC bosses have nothing against the gaming scene.

When you combine that with the very realistic-looking imagery that’s flying around on Twitter, let’s just say that we wouldn’t be surprised to see the TARDIS materialising in Fortnite soon. We’ll let you know if and when anything gets confirmed.

Molly Moss <![CDATA[Who is Lori Vallow and where is she now? Sins of Our Mother explained]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1707822 2023-08-01T16:21:08Z 2023-08-01T15:50:58Z

Lori Vallow has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering two of her children and for conspiring to kill her husband’s ex-wife, as of Monday 31st July 2023.

Vallow was dubbed as the ‘doomsday mom’ in the US media following a series of bizarre events involving death, religious fanaticism, and a belief in zombies.

The disappearance of two of her children, Tylee Ryan, 16, and Joshua “JJ” Vallow, seven, in September 2019 shook the nation and led to a month long search. But it wasn’t until June 2020 that police found the remains of Tylee and JJ at a property in Idaho that belonged to Vallow’s fifth husband, Chad Daybell.

After a lengthy trial, Vallow was convicted of their murders in May 2023, along with conspiracy to murder her husband’s ex-wife, Tammy.

On Monday 31st July 2023, Vallow appeared at Fremont County Courthouse in St Anthony, Idaho for sentencing.

She was jailed for life without the possibility of parole for the murders of her two children and conspiring to kill her husband’s former wife.

Vallow’s case was the subject of Netflix’s Sins of Our Mother, which aired in September 2022.

Directed by Skye Borgman (I just Killed My Dad), the three-part documentary tells the story mainly through the eyes of Vallow’s surviving son, Colby Ryan. Vallow’s mother, Janis Cox, also features, explaining how she went from defending her daughter to believing those accusing her of wrongdoing “were right”.

In an interview with E! News, Borgman said: “Lori Vallow has many faces. That of a mother, sister, wife… and liar. I don’t know if we will ever know exactly what motivated Lori to commit such unspeakable crimes. But to formulate any answer we must look at Lori through the eyes of the people who knew her best.”

As Lori Vallow is sentenced, here’s everything you need to know about the tragic case, and where she is now.

Who are Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell?

Lori Vallow and Colby Ryan in Sins of Our Mother
Lori Vallow and Colby Ryan in Sins of Our Mother.
Netflix

Vallow, born Lori Cox, grew up in San Bernardino, California, and married five times.

By the time she met her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, she had two children, Colby and Tylee Ryan, and had become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more commonly known as the Mormon Church. The pair adopted Charles’s grand-nephew, Joshua Jaxon JJ Vallow.

The documentary paints a picture of a seemingly perfect mother at this point, with her son Colby telling the camera: “We had a wonderful family before this happened.”

However, during her marriage to Charles, Vallow became entangled with a novelist and fellow Mormon Chad Daybell, who held fanatical, apocalyptic beliefs.

The pair met for the first time in 2018 and things quickly devolved from there. A few months later in 2019, Vallow grew noticeably distant from her family members and by the end of the year, only Vallow, Daybell and Colby Ryan were still alive.

A series of grim events led up to this point. In February 2019, Charles Vallow filed for divorce and an order of protection against his wife, who he claimed had threatened to murder him.

He was later killed by Lori’s brother, Alex Cox, who claimed it was self-defence after Charles had attacked him.

And that was only the beginning. In September 2019, Lori’s children JJ (7) and Tylee Ryan (17) went missing and, the following month, Daybell’s wife Tammy died of “natural causes”, it was initially reported.

Two weeks later, Lori Vallow and Daybell fled to Hawaii, leading the authorities to suspect that Tammy may not have died in her sleep after all.

In 2019, Alex Cox was then found dead at his home in Arizona; he is believed to have died due to blood clots and high blood pressure.

It was in January 2020 that walls really started to close in on Vallow, as JJ’s grandmother requested a welfare check on her grandson.

Lori was ordered by the authorities to prove that her children were safe and was later arrested in February 2020. She was charged with two felony counts of desertion and nonsupport of dependent children, as well as three misdemeanors: resisting or obstructing officers, criminal solicitation to commit a crime, and contempt of court.

In June of that year, the bodies of JJ and Tylee were discovered by the authorities in a shallow grave in the Daybell family’s back garden.

Lori Vallow: Where is she now?

Following the discovery of human remains in their back garden, two of the initial charges against Lori – two felony counts of desertion and non-support of dependent children – were dropped. She was then charged with obstruction or concealment of evidence regarding her children’s remains.Chad Daybell was arrested and charged with felony murder.

In May 2021, they were both charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree murder, and grand theft by deception for the deaths of Tylee, JJ, and Tammy.

At that time, Lori was declared mentally unfit to stand trial. Both Vallow and Daybell pleaded not guilty, with their cases to be tried together in January 2023, with the hope Vallow would then be deemed competent.

Vallow’s trial went ahead, and on 12 May 2023, she was found guilty of the charges. On Monday 31st July 2023, Lori Vallow was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of her two children. Vallow was given a third life sentence for conspiring to kill her husband’s ex-wife, Tammy, with each sentence to be served consecutively.

Daybell is still awaiting trial on the same murder charges. His trial date in Boise, Idaho, has been set and if found guilty, he could face the death penalty, according to the Idaho Statesman.

During Vallow’s sentencing, 7th District Judge Steven Boyce said: “I don’t think to this day you have any remorse for the effort and heartache you caused for others who looked for your children when you knew where they were and knew they were dead.”

Before her sentencing, Vallow addressed the court, saying that a near-death experience allowed her to communicate with the “spirit world”. She then told the judge that she knew for a fact that her children and Tammy Daybell were happy in heaven. She added that Tylee and JJ have communicated with her that they are happy after their deaths.

During her trial, Vallow shared her belief that her children had to be destroyed so they could go to heaven. She allegedly believed her son and daughter were zombies, and that she was a goddess sent to usher in the biblical apocalypse.

Vallow faces two other cases in Arizona – one on a charge of conspiring with her brother to hill her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, and one of conspiring to kill her niece’s ex-husband. Charles was shot and killed in 2019, while her niece’s ex-husband survived an attempt at his life that same year.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office plans to extradite Vallow to Arizona now that she’s been sentenced in Idaho and after she’s transferred to the Idaho Department of Correction. Vallow is being held at the Madison County Jail in Rexburg.

“The extradition can take from several weeks to several months,” the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office previously said in a statement.

Lauren Morris <![CDATA[Euphoria season 3: Release date speculation, cast and latest news]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1592106 2023-08-01T15:45:10Z 2023-08-01T15:30:59Z

Ever since Euphoria season 2 came to a dramatic end in early 2022, fans have been clamouring for a third season.

Well, there’s good news on this front: the teen drama has officially been confirmed by HBO, and plenty of familiar faces are expected to return.

Fans can expect Zendaya to reprise her role as Rue Bennett, alongside other Euphoria regulars such as Hunter Schafer (Jules), Jacob Elordi (Nate), Alexa Demie (Maddy), Algee Smith (Chris), Sydney Sweeney (Cassie), Maude Apatow (Lexi) and Dominic Fike (Elliot).

However, sadly Angus Cloud won’t be returning as Fezco O’Neill following the actor’s tragic passing at the age of 25 in July 2023.

Back in October, the actor said he was keen to see how things would unfold for his character in season 3, who was last seen being taken away by police following a gunfight in which his adoptive brother Ashtray (Javon Walton) was fatally shot.

“I can’t wait to get back to work with everyone,” the actor told E! News at the time. “I feel like it’s been way too long. I just can’t wait to see everyone and [get] working on set again.”

In addition, Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat in the series, will not be returning for the upcoming third season, she recently confirmed on social media.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character, Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” she wrote in an Instagram story, alongside a photo of fan art by her co-star Hunter Schafer.

She continued: “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did, and that [it] brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you, Katherine Hernandez.”

The news comes after widespread speculation about tensions between Levinson and Ferreira over her character arc in season 2, with Kat largely forced into the background – a stark difference from the previous season, in which she provded one of the series’ most thought-provoking and fresh storylines.

As well as finding out what happened to Fezco, the ending of season 2 also revealed how Cassie and friends reacted to Lexi’s play and whether Rue repaired her relationship with Jules after she told her mum she’d relapsed.

While the highly dramatic season 2 finale answered a fair few questions, there are still some plot points we need to know more about, so thank goodness season 3 has been confirmed by HBO!

But what exactly is the third instalment going to cover, who from the Euphoria cast will be returning and when can we expect it to arrive on our screens?

Here’s everything we know so far about Euphoria season 3.

**Spoiler warning for Euphoria season 2 episode 8**

Will Euphoria be back for season 3?

Yes! HBO announced at the beginning of February that Euphoria would be back for season 3.

As for the future of the show, it’s currently unclear whether season 3 will be Euphoria’s last – in fact, HBO executives aren’t even sure at this point.

“I will let [executive producer] Sam [Levinson] and Zendaya talk about [that],” Casey Bloys, chief content officer at HBO, told TVLine earlier this month.

“I’m very excited about what they’ve got planned [for season 3]. So I will leave that to them. I will say, generally speaking, we trust where they want to take these characters. So we’ll let the creative team lead the way.”

Euphoria season 3 release date speculation

While we know Euphoria is definitely returning for another season, we don’t yet know when it will arrive – however, it’s unlikely to hit our screens until 2024.

Its main star Zendaya, who plays troubled teen Rue, has had a pretty jam-packed schedule recently, with the Emmy winner filming Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film Challengers and shooting Dune: Part Two in quick succession.

Meanwhile, actress Maude Apatow told Vogue: “I honestly don’t know a single thing. We should be getting scripts and hearing about next season soon-ish, but I’m totally in the dark!”

Responding to such a suggestion in Variety of a 2023 air date, actor Eric Dane said: “I just saw something that said 2024, which kind of makes sense. I mean, we’ll go back and shoot maybe in November. I don’t know. I haven’t heard. It’s always going to be changing.”

So the wait will likely be long, Euphoria fans!

Euphoria season 3 cast

The following cast members have been confirmed for Euphoria season 3.

 • Zendaya as Rue Bennett
 • Eric Dane as Cal Jacobs
 • Sydney Sweeney as Cassie Howard
 • Dominic Fike as Elliot
 • Maude Apatow as Lexi Howard

We would also expect returns for the following stars:

 • Hunter Schafer as Jules Vaughn
 • Nika King as Leslie Bennett
 • Jacob Elordi as Nate Jacobs
 • Alexa Demie as Maddy Perez
 • Storm Reid as Gia Bennett
 • Austin Abrams as Ethan Daley
 • Colman Domingo as Ali Muhammed

While it’s not entirely clear who will be back for season 3 of Euphoria, we do know that Zendaya will be reprising her role of Rue, with Bloys telling TVLine: “She’s going to be in season 3.”

In fact, we can’t see Zendaya leaving the show anytime soon, with Bloys adding: “It’s hard to imagine doing [the] show without her.”

We also know that Dominic Fike will be back in season 3 as Elliot, with the singer and actor telling The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that he would “absolutely” be back.

Sydney Sweeney also confirmed her return for the third season when she discussed her hopes for her character in a chat with Cosmopolitan.

Sweeney said: “I can only imagine where she’s going to go next season. As an actor, I love being able to go to places that might be deep for characters, because you unlock different parts of them that you didn’t know before. I love discovering different parts of Cassie.

“Season two was so different [to season one] because last season Cassie was so confident and on this path of self-love and self-worth.”

Meanwhile, Eric Dane also confirmed his involvement in the series when he discussed returning to filming.

Eric Dane as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria

Dane told Variety: “There’s gonna be redemption. I mean, that’s the trajectory he’s on. I can’t imagine Cal’s life from solitary confinement. It’s tough to work Cal into the storyline when he’s behind bars.”

The actor also revealed he hopes that Cal and Nate can (somehow) mend their relationship.

As for the rest of the cast, we’re likely to see Hunter Schafer (Jules Vaughn), Alexa Demie (Maddy Perez), Maude Apatow (Lexi Howard), Jacob Elordi (Nate Jacobs), Storm Reid (Gia Bennett), Colman Domingo (Ali Muhammed), Austin Abrams (Ethan Daley) and Nika King (Leslie Bennett) return for season 3.

However, Fezco is unlikely to return following the tragic death of actor Angus Cloud.

Fez left in a precarious situation but alive after being shot in the stomach in the finale, and was taken into police custody in the second season finale.

Hopefully, newer additions to the cast like Martha Kelly (Laurie), Chloe Cherry (Faye) and Minka Kelly (Samantha) will also be back for a second round to tie up their storylines.

Javon Walton as Ashtray in Euphoria
It seems we have seen the last of Javon Walton as Ashtray in Euphoria
Eddy Chen/HBO

Sadly, as detailed above, Barbie Ferreira will not be reprising her role as Kat Hernandez in season 3 after the actress elected to depart the series.

What’s more, it seems that Javon Walton will not be returning as Ashtray either after the character was gunned down by a SWAT team in the season 2 finale.

Despite the possibility of flashback appearances, Walton also didn’t rule out Ashtray being alive.

He told Variety: “There’s definitely hope for Ashtray to still be alive. Because if there’s somebody who could take a bullet in the show, it’s Ashtray. Ashtray is one badass kid. He’s not playing around. I believe he has a shot about being around for Season 3.”

Could Ashtray be alive after all?

Euphoria season 3 plot

There are a number of plot points left to explore following the Euphoria season 2 finale.

In terms of major cliffhangers, Fezco was taken into police custody after accidentally being shot in the stomach by adoptive brother Ashtray, who was subsequently shot dead by a SWAT team.

Maude Apatow, who plays Lexi on the show, told Entertainment Weekly that she wanted to see a slow-burn romance between everybody’s favourite pair – Fez and Lexi. “I love working with Angus. I think Angus is such a great actor, and we just have so much fun working together,” she said. “So for selfish reasons, I hope we get to do more scenes together because it’s fun.”

Elsewhere, we will continue to follow Rue Bennett on her journey of sobriety and battling addiction – we know she lasts the school year being sober, but what about beyond?

It also seems that her romance with Jules Vaughn and friendship with Elliot is both now done for good. Where does this leave Jules and is she really done with Elliot too?

Hunter Schafer as Jules in Euphoria

Eddy Chen/HBO

Cassie Howard will also be dealing with her split from Nate Jacobs, but former best friend Maddy Perez warned her that their complicated relationship is just beginning. Can Maddy and Cassie mend their friendship?

Meanwhile, newbie Chloe Cherry, who plays heroin addict Faye, told Variety that she hopes Faye grows closer to Rue in season 3.

“They’d vibe for sure. I think Faye has a story of addiction to tell as Rue does; even though it’s different, I think that they could learn something from each other,” she said. “I also think Rue is a non-judgmental character, and I think that is all Faye needs. I think if they got closer, they would get along because they have these shared experiences and they are both chill girls in spite of it.”

Finally, as mentioned previously, it seems we will follow Cal Jacobs’ journey of “redemption” – if such a thing is possible.

Is there a trailer for Euphoria season 3?

With an official release date now confirmed for the new series of Neighbours, naturally thoughts are turning towards who will be returning for the revival.

And fans can look forward to the return of many iconic characters, including Stefan Dennis as Paul Robinson, Jackie Woodburne as Susan Kennedy, Alan Fletcher as Dr Karl Kennedy and Ryan Moloney as Toadie Rebecchi, as well as plenty of new faces.

Neighbours recently released a brand new trailer, giving fans a look at The Varga-Murphys, a new family who’ll be joining the revival, while it was previously confirmed that The OC’s Mischa Barton will be joining the cast in the upcoming series.

But who else is returning for Neighbours’ 2023 revival on Amazon Freevee?

Who is returning to the Neighbours cast for the Amazon revival?

 • April Rose Pengilly as Chloe Brennan
 • Ian Smith as Harold Bishop
 • Lucinda Cowden as Melanie Pearson

One of the original cast members of Neighbours, Stefan Dennis will be reprising his role as the dastardly but loveable Paul Robinson.

In the Neighbours 2022 finale, Paul finally reconciled with Terese Willis and decided to remain in Ramsay Street with her despite considering plans to leave for New York.

Will Terese return alongside Paul? And which of Paul’s children will be on the street when the show returns to our screens?

Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne)

The beating heart of Ramsay Street, Susan Kennedy will be back and played by Neighbours legend Jackie Woodburne.

In the Neighbours 2022 finale, Susan was awarded the thoughtful final voiceover of the show as she recalled all those who had been and gone on Ramsay Street.

However, Susan was delighted to learn that her neighbours would remain on the iconic road.

Now Susan will be back alongside her devoted husband Dr Karl Kennedy for the new episodes.

The other half of Neighbours’ golden couple, Alan Fletcher will reprise his role as Dr Karl Kennedy for the show’s return on Amazon Freevee.

In the Neighbours 2022 finale, Karl was pleased when his ex Izzy Hoyland did the right thing by splitting up with their son Billy.

Karl and Susan were also delighted to learn that their friends were staying in Erinsborough despite many planning to leave Ramsay Street.

Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney)

The resident funnyman and all-around good guy, Toadie Rebecchi will again be played on our screens by Ryan Moloney.

The Neighbours 2022 finale saw Toadie marry Melanie Pearson after a few hiccups and the pair decided to stay in Ramsay Street for good despite considering leaving their house behind.

Will Toadie and Melanie still be together by the time they return to our screens? We shall have to wait and see.

Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou)

Paul Robinson’s feisty recent wife Terese had a troubled relationship with the schemer – however, the course of true love never did run smoothly.

Despite having moved on and into another relationship, Terese decided to reconcile with Paul in the final episode of Neighbours and the pair was back together at the series’ end.

Jane Harris (Annie Jones)

Classic Neighbours character Jane Harris had one of the most remarked-upon conclusions in the finale of Neighbours.

Reunited with her old love Mike Young (Guy Pearce), unlucky-in-love Jane had a dream romantic ending that saw the pair reconcile.

However, with Jane confirmed to return without Mike, what did happen?

Leo Tanaka (Tim Kano)

Harold Bishop (Ian Smith)

Iconic Neighbours character Harold Bishop is known for memorably returning and departing the soap over the years, including when he made a comeback for the show’s final episodes.

However, we can expect to see good ol’ Jelly-Belly when the soap returns later this year.

Actor Ian Smith is back in a guest capacity.

Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden)

When fans heard that Toadie was returning, their first thought was whether his new wife Melanie would be back too.

Now fans of classic character Melanie can rest easy – as she will return with her seal-like laugh for the new episodes.

The soap confirmed: “We’re so excited to announce that Lucinda Cowden will be reprising her role as Melanie Pearson in new episodes of Neighbours later this year.

“We can’t wait to welcome her back (and maybe her pig collection too). Even Madame Zolga couldn’t have predicted this one!”

Andrew Rodwell (Lloyd Will)

Police sergeant Andrew will be back for the new episodes of Neighbours when it returns later this year.

It is unknown what capacity will see Andrew back in the show.

Wendy Rodwell (Candice Leask)

Andrew’s wife Wendy will also return by his side in the new episodes.

Sadie Rodwell (Emerald Chan)

Andrew and Wendy’s daughter Sadie will also make a comeback for the revival season of Neighbours.

Who else could return to Neighbours in 2023?

The following regular cast members were present on Ramsay Street at the conclusion of the series.

 • Charlotte Chimes as Nicolette Stone
 • Takaya Honda as David Tanaka
 • Richard Huggett as Glen Donnelly
 • Gemma Bird Matheson as Kiri Durant
 • Richie Morris as Levi Canning
 • Geoff Paine as Clive Gibbons
 • Phoebe Roberts as Freya Wozniak
 • Jacinta Stapleton as Amy Greenwood
 • Matt Wilson as Aaron Brennan

However, the final weeks of the soap’s original run also saw a number of past characters return, some of which were integral in wrapping up the stories of some of our regular cast members.

Guy Pearce returned as Mike Young for the final three episodes, where he provided a romantic happy ending for Jane Harris. Does this mean that Jane won’t be back, as we can’t see Pearce returning? Somehow, given Pearce’s Hollywood status, we fear Mike and Jane’s time will end in heartache.

Jodi Gordon reprised her role as Elly Conway in the final episodes to also provide a romantic happy ending for Chloe Brennan, with the pair potentially moving to Sydney. However, with Chloe returning in a guest capacity, will we see more of Elly too?

Finally, Natalie Bassingthwaighte also reprised her role as the troublemaking Izzy Hoyland for the final episodes and ended up striking up a romance with original cast member Shane Ramsay, played by Peter O’Brien, who was also back for the final episodes.

We would be surprised if these two returned, and the same for Izzy’s ex and Karl and Susan’s son, Malcolm Kennedy (Benjamin McNair).

Ramsay Street fans, assemble: Neighbours has been revived, despite providing us with a heartwarming ending earlier this year.

Amazon Freevee is bringing back the Australian soap opera after it was initially axed – and now we have an official release date

Neighbours has also released a trailer to accompany the release date news, giving fans a glimpse at many familiar faces – as well as some new characters.

Ramsay Street will be welcoming the Varga-Murphys, with the new family bound to ruffle some feathers following their arrival, while it was previously confirmed that The OC’s Mischa Barton will be joining the cast as a guest star in the upcoming series.

Barton will be portraying the enigmatic Reece Sinclair, “an American new to Erinsborough who’s not quite who she appears to be”, according to the press release.

Plenty of iconic characters have already signed up to return, including Susan Kennedy (played by Jackie Woodburne), Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher), Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) and Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney).

Read on for everything you need to know about the revival.

When is Neighbours returning?

Neighbours will be returning on Monday 18th September 2023.

From then, it will air from Monday to Thursday, every week.

In the meantime, classic Neighbours episodes are available to watch on Amazon Freevee.

The new series resumed filming back in April, with an on-set picture confirming the news.

Who will star in Neighbours in 2023?

So far, we know of four characters returning to Neighbours. They are…

 • Susan Kennedy played by Jackie Woodburne
 • Karl Kennedy played by Alan Fletcher
 • Paul Robinson played by Stefan Dennis
 • Toadie Rebecchi played by Ryan Moloney

As for who else, that’s yet to be announced – but we’ll keep this page up to date as we know more.

Several cast members took to social media on 17th November shortly after the announcement was made, saying they knew nothing of its revival.

That doesn’t rule them out though, as some of their on-screen relatives will be back, so there’s every possibility they could return.

How to watch the Neighbours revival

The Neighbours revival will air on Amazon Freevee in 2023.

Freevee is Amazon’s free streaming service, which replaced IMDb TV.

Like other AVoD services, it shows adverts to generate money, rather than asking viewers to pay to subscribe and use the service.

In good news for Neighbours fans, thousands of classic episodes are now available to stream on Amazon Freevee.

Love Island star Lochan Nowacki has admitted that he was “shocked” to finish runner-up with Whitney Adebayo on the hit reality show.

The pair came in second place to winners Jess Harding and Sammy Root – with many viewers expressing their surprise at the result after a whopping 57 per cent of RadioTimes.com readers predicted Lochan and Whitney would win the show, compared to just 12.3 per cent who voted for the eventual victors.

But it appears that both Lochan – who joined the show during this year’s Casa Amor – and Whitney were very happy with their second-place position.

“Shocking! That’s the word that really stands out,” Lochan explained in an interview after leaving the villa. “Extremely grateful that the public saw what I saw in Whitney. Being in the final was a real shock.”

He added: “I didn’t have as long a journey but it was an amazing feeling. I felt so blessed. I could have left two weeks ago and been happy, and I think it was the same for Whitney. We took everything in.”

He also revealed that he was “so excited to spend time with Whitney in our own homes with our family” now that they are out of the villa.

“We are homebodies, so it will be nice to spend time with each other,” he said. “But at the same time having dates and walks without being on a microphone!”

Love Island will return to ITV2 and ITVX in 2024. Seasons 1-10 are available to watch on ITVX. You can watch all previous seasons of Love Island on BritBox – you can sign up for a 7-day free trial.

Louise Griffin <![CDATA[The Witcher season 3 volume 2 ending explained: Who is Falka?]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1861791 2023-08-01T15:04:15Z 2023-08-01T14:49:57Z

Note: This article contains discussion of suicide that some readers may find upsetting.

*Warning: This article contains full spoilers for The Witcher season 3 volume 2.*

It’s time to say goodbye to Henry Cavill.

That’s right, folks: with the arrival of The Witcher season 3 volume 2, the actor’s stint as Geralt of Rivia has come to an end.

Of course, it’s no surprise to fans of the fantasy series that Cavill is leaving the show, with the news of his exit first announced back in 2022.

Liam Hemsworth is set to take on the role in season 4, and executive producer Tomek Bagiński recently told RadioTimes.com that Cavill will portray a “slightly different Geralt.”

“I have actually seen how Liam looks as Geralt and I’m actually quite excited,” he continued.

But for now, let’s recap the end of season 3. How did Cavill’s character bid farewell to this world, and where did we leave Ciri (Freya Allan), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and co?

Read on for everything you need to know about how The Witcher season 3 volume 2 ends.

The Witcher season 3 ending explained

As we go into the final episode, Geralt is mortally wounded after a showdown with Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu), with the dryads attempting to heal him. He’s determined to leave with Jaskier (Joey Batey) to look for Ciri (Freya Allan), who’s missing, but a particularly defiant dryad, Milva (Meng’er Zhang), keeps pointing out how weak he is.

Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) is desperately attempting to find information about Ciri, with rumours telling her she’s headed to Nilfgaard. She realises Vilgefortz is taking her to Emhyr, aka The White Flame (Bart Edwards) – something that could throw the whole Continent into chaos. She vows to find her before she reaches Nilfgaard.

In her search for Ciri, Yennefer and the rest of the sorceresses find the remains of the girls taken by Vilgefortz. They also find Philippa (Cassie Clare), who’s also been searching for Ciri, with all of them joining together to reverse the spell and restore the girls to their recognisable human forms, before agreeing to give them a proper burial.

Francesca (Mecia Simson) and Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni), meanwhile, have a plan and head to see Emhyr. They propose that Emhyr returns both of them to Cintra, with the elves finally having a home. Emhyr agrees to the plans – but won’t agree to let the Elven army, the Scoia’tael, go with them – meaning Francesca either has to abandon her army to save the rest of her people, or see them all die.

Meanwhile, King Vizimir (Ed Birch) is fuming with Dijkstra (Graham McTavish) after his broken promises. As he hands him a knife, he tells him that an example has to be made – out of Philippa, Dijkstra’s closest ally.

At Aretuza, Tissaia is broken after all the sacrifices she’s made and pain she’s caused, with Yennefer telling her to remember who she is. As the service for the novices begins, Tissaia stays behind and tells Yennefer she’ll regain her composure and join her. It turns out to be the last time Yennefer sees her alive – she suddenly feels a pain in her wrist and realises something terrible has happened to Tissaia. She rushes to her side and, to her horror, discovers that Tissaia has taken her own life.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com about that harrowing moment, actress Buring explained: “She feels utterly responsible for the death of so many and she ultimately can’t live with herself. I think that amount of pain feels unbearable and, for so long having felt that she could be a crucial help to the kingdoms and to Aretuza and to the future of Chaos, she suddenly realises within herself that she is no help at all.

“And I think that’s why the end is the only possibility for her. She’s not in the future. The others are.”

Immediately afterwards, she goes to see Geralt and tells him what she’s heard about Ciri being on her way to Nilfgaard. She heals him further, preparing him for the journey ahead.

Radovid (Hugh Skinner) returns home and sees his brother Vizimir, while Philippa and Dijkstra speak. Dijkstra acknowledges that Vizimir needs accountability, pointing the knife at Philippa, before turning it around and urging her to kill him and put the blame on him. Philippa refuses, revealing she’s already enacted her plan – killing Vizimir to place Radovid on the throne.

Elsewhere, Francesca and Fringilla discuss their options. Angry that Francesca is considering disinheriting the Scoia’tael, Fringilla reveals that Emhyr killed her baby and that she took credit for it initially. Francesca sees red and is left horrified that, all this time, her ally knew who killed her child and hadn’t told her. She vows to inflict suffering on both Emhyr and Fringilla.

Following Tissaia’s death, the sorceresses join together and agree to eliminate Vilgefortz, while Geralt and Jaskier prepare for their onward journey.

Emhyr prepares for Ciri’s arrival in Nilfgaard but it soon becomes clear that it’s not Ciri who has returned – but Teryn, the girl who was previously made to believe she was Ciri.

So, where’s the real Ciri? She’s tied up in a tavern but soon escapes, inciting a vicious fight throughout the tavern, with a group of criminals, the Rats, coming to the rescue of their friend, who’s tied up with her. Ciri fights and kills her captor.

Meanwhile, Geralt and Jaskier run into trouble with some overbearing guards who are blocking their passage and demanding identification from everyone who passes. They pass, but Geralt can’t overlook a family behind him being shouted down by the guards and fights dozens of them off – with a little help from Milva. Cavill’s final scene shows him walking off into the distance with Jaskier and Milva – on his way to Ciri.

Why does Ciri call herself Falka in The Witcher season 3?

But the season ends with Ciri. As tears run down her face, the Rats ask her name. Harking back to the princess who led a rebellion, she answers: “You can call me Falka.”

Falka was the daughter of Redania’s King Vridank and his first wife, Beatrix of Kovir, and is one of the figures that visits Ciri when she’s trapped in the desert.

Falka began the infamous rebellion as she attempted to gain the throne, which was rightfully hers as the first born child of the monarch. However, after Falka killed her father, two half-brothers – Heltmult and Denhard – and her father’s second wife, she went down in history as a blood-thirsty demon.

Following the rebellion, she was condemned to die on the stake. In her final moments, she cursed everyone present, saying a child bearing her blood would cause them all to suffer.

David Craig <![CDATA[Why is Henry Cavill leaving The Witcher?]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1849236 2023-08-01T15:00:50Z 2023-08-01T14:45:40Z

The final episodes of The Witcher season 3 have finally landed on Netflix, but it’s a bittersweet moment for fans of the Netflix fantasy series, with the latest instalment marking the end of the road for series star Henry Cavill.

It was announced back in October 2022 that Cavill would be parting ways with The Witcher, with Liam Hemsworth set to take over the reins – a casting decision that has been met with much scepticism.

Cavill‘s portrayal of Geralt of Rivia was embraced by fans, many of whom admired his professed love for the epic source material, which comes from the mind of Polish novelist Andrzej Sapkowski.

So, why does his enthusiasm for the role appear to have waned and why is he leaving The Witcher?

Here’s what we understand about the circumstances behind his departure.

Why is Henry Cavill leaving The Witcher?

While Cavill has not publicly spoken about his precise reasons for leaving The Witcher, some have considered the timing of his exit as an indication of what could have been going on.

A mere five days before his resignation came to light, Cavill had announced on Instagram that he was returning to the role of Superman in the DC Extended Universe (following his cameo appearance in Black Adam).

The actor stopped short of announcing any specific DC projects, but teased there was a “bright future ahead” for his incarnation of the character. Suffice to say, that comment aged poorly.

Roughly two months later, James Gunn was named the new head of DC Studios and his first action was to announce Superman: Legacy – a reboot of the iconic character, with a new actor in the coveted role.

Cavill responded: “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.

“I respect that James and Peter [Safran, co-chair] have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

Netflix quickly clarified that Cavill would not be returning to The Witcher regardless of this development.

In the months that have followed, another narrative has taken root among the fan community, speculating that there had been tension between Cavill and The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.

However, there is no firm evidence to suggest that this is the case – besides unconfirmed gossip, that is, which naturally spreads like wildfire on the internet.

Liam Hemsworth has been announced as the next Geralt of Rivia on The Witcher.

The Hunger Games star said (via Instagram): “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia.

“Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.”

Hemsworth’s casting was greeted with some backlash from fans loyal to the original star, but it’s worth noting that Cavill’s statement on the matter was quite amicable and supportive.

“In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf,” he shared.

“As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.”

Cavill concluded: “Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

The original plan for Netflix’s The Witcher adaptation was a seven-season run, which appears to remain a target for the creative team attached.

Casting director Sophie Holland has confirmed that season 5 is in the works and she expects it to start filming shortly after season 4 wraps.

Hissrich defended her decision to recast the role of Geralt – rather than introduce a new Witcher or end the show outright – saying that there are simply “too many stories left to tell”.

She added: “If we replaced Geralt with another Witcher, we would be going fully away from the books, and I don’t think that’s what anyone wanted either.”

The Witcher’s final three episodes with Henry Cavill have landed on Netflix, bringing the actor’s stint as Geralt of Rivia to an end.

It’s been known for a while that Cavill is parting ways with The Witcher, with Liam Hemsworth set to take over the reigns from season 4 onwards.

Producer Tomek Bagiński recently hinted that the series could offer an in-universe explanation for Geralt’s change in appearance, while casting director Sophie Holland seemingly confirmed a fifth season is also in the works.

But that’s a long way off, so for now read on for everything you need to know about The Witcher season 3 volume 2.

The Witcher season 3 part 2 became available to stream on Netflix from Thursday 27th July 2023.

The show dropped the first five episodes of its third outing on Thursday 29th June, with fans spending the past month in suspense over how this chapter of the fantasy epic will end.

Executive producer Steve Gaub confirmed filming on season 3 had wrapped back in September 2022.

He posted a picture of a skull on a bookcase on Instagram, writing alongside: “And that’s a picture wrap on Season 3 of @witchernetflix!!”

How many episodes in The Witcher season 3?

There are eight new episodes for fans to enjoy in season 3.

Volume 1 consists of five episodes, while volume 2 is made up of the remaining three.

The following cast members have been confirmed for The Witcher season 3.

 • Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia
 • Freya Allan as Cirilla
 • Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg
 • Joey Batey as Jaskier
 • Mimî M Khayisa as Fringilla Vigo
 • Eamon Farren as Cahir
 • MyAnna Buring as Tissaia de Vries
 • Wilson Mbomio as Dara
 • Tom Canton as Filavandrel

The season will be Cavill’s final run as Geralt before he is replaced by Liam Hemsworth for the fourth season onwards.

Speaking on his departure, Cavill said: “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season 4.”

Cavill added: “In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.

“Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Speaking to RadioTimes.comAllan revealed it was “very hard to say” how Ciri could evolve in future episodes.

“You sort of discover that as you go along, really,” she said. “It’s something that you can’t necessarily say what you want. You’re discovering it as you play it, and just using the script in whatever way you do.

“But I would say I definitely, obviously want to see her become an insane fighter,” she added. “That’s for sure. I can’t wait for her to get her proper sword. The day that I get handed a proper silver, heavy sword, is going to be the day that I’m content.”

Aside from Cavill, Allan and Chalotra, we’d also expect season 2 cast member Joey Batey to reprise his role as Jaskier, especially since he’s already spoken out about where he’d like to see the character go in future seasons.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com, Batey said he’d like to see Jaskier be part of storylines that could “help young people work out who they are, or how they fit in a changing world”.

“Being part of these stories that manage to take an awful lot of what’s happening in our contemporary world and our actual world and show them through a lens of fantasy, and not just delve into dragons and sword fights and stuff, but we actually get to see bits of this world that resonate, particularly for younger people,” he said.

“If I’m in any way part of those kinds of storylines, which can help young people work out who they are or how they fit in a changing world, then that’s something that I’m incredibly excited to be a part of.”

However, Allan has said she would like to try her hand at other roles one day – and that she has an endpoint in mind for leaving The Witcher – so viewers will have to wait and see what’s in store for season three.

In addition, Royce Pierreson is expected to return as Istredd, Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold and Kim Bodnia as Vesemir.

Talking about whether he could return to our screens in a third season, Paul Bullion, who plays Lambert, told RadioTimes.com in an exclusive interview: “You know, it’s no secret, I love the series, and I love the project. We’re very excited about it. So, yeah, I’m happy to, in the future… If I’m lucky enough to be part of the expansive plans that they’ve got then, hey, look, let’s see how series two goes down.”

Yasen Atour, who stars as Coen, added: “Listen, ‘Why wouldn’t I?’ is your answer. You know what I mean? It’s been an absolute pleasure and honour to be part of a show of that magnitude. There are conversations. I can’t go too deep into that, but I think: watch this space.

“It is, also, a business, and it’s about what works, and what doesn’t. It’s not a case of just being in a show for, you know, just being in a show. There has to be a story, and it has to connect with the world, and how the story’s going to move forward.”

In addition, Liz Carr, who plays Fenn, has also said she would “love the opportunity to return”.

“I don’t know a thing about this, but I know there is a series three, or that’s the plan, for a season three. Lauren’s been on Twitter, talking about that, in the writer’s room. So I would love the opportunity to return and do a little bit more with Codringher and Fenn.”

Season 2 introduced a whole host of new characters, so that’s bound to continue into season 3 as well.

The Witcher season 3 plot: What will happen?

Henry Cavill as the Witcher, holding a sword
Henry Cavill in The Witcher.

The official plot synopsis for season 3 reads: “As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.

“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

So it looks like The Witcher season 3 is going to delve further into Ciri’s destiny after those season 2 cliffhangers, which revealed that The Wild Hunt wants Ciri for her ‘Hen Ikeir’ (Elder Blood), given that she potentially has the power to restore the elves to their former glory.

As Geralt said of Ciri’s destiny in season 2: “The demon; the Wild Hunt – she’s marked for something, and it doesn’t end there. If mages and royals find out she’s still alive and what she’s capable of, they won’t stop coming for her.”

There’ll be a tense hunt for Ciri in future episodes, with Yennefer and Geralt scrabbling to protect her as the main trio become tied together in one epic storyline.

In addition, speaking exclusively with RadioTimes.com, executive producer Tomek Bagiński promised an epic season 3 finale ahead of Cavill’s exit.

“Yes, we are saying our goodbyes to this Geralt and new Geralt is coming,” he said.

He continued: “But also we’re leaving people with a couple of cliffhangers which are, I think, pretty interesting and pretty cool and promise a very, very adventurous future.”

Hissrich recently told TechRadar that the third season is based on The Time of Contempt, which sees Yennefer, Ciri and Geralt journey to Aretuza so that Ciri can learn how to master her magic.

“We’re almost done with the scripting phase, and it’s amazing,” she revealed. “I’m really thrilled with how the season is shaping up because it’s based on my favourite book in the saga, which is The Time of Contempt.

“I feel like seasons 1 and 2 have been laying the playing field for everything huge that’s about to happen,” she added. “But the creative process is now really just starting. We have the scripts, and now we’ll bring directors on, the actors back in, and really start delving in deeper and reflecting back and making sure that it’s the perfect season.”

Louise Griffin <![CDATA[Good Omens fan theory could change everything about season 2 ending]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1866784 2023-08-01T14:42:21Z 2023-08-01T14:42:21Z

WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR GOOD OMENS SEASON 2

It’s safe to say no one has recovered from the ending of Good Omens season 2, with Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) being ripped apart from each other.

As we wait for a potential season 3, with creator Neil Gaiman confirming that a third season would be the show’s last, fans have been speculating wildly about what might happen next.

For those who need reminding about the heart-wrenching moment, the final episode saw Crowley confess his love for Aziraphale, with the angel taking the Metatron (Sir Derek Jacobi) up on an offer to return to Heaven.

While he hoped to take Crowley with him, the demon refused. The pair unhappily parted ways, with fans left heartbroken.

One theory, dubbed the “coffee theory”, suggests Aziraphale wasn’t in his right frame of mind when making the decision, though.

During the scene when the Metatron makes his offer to Aziraphale, he hands the angel a coffee – an oat milk latte with almond syrup, to be exact.

Read more:

Some fans are convinced they heard the sound effect of a miracle being performed when the Metatron offers Aziraphale the coffee – potentially meaning the Metatron spiked it with something to ensure Aziraphale would agree to his offer and that he would be separated from Crowley.

Fans are divided over the theory – some have argued that the decision to return to Heaven was totally out of character for Aziraphale, while others have pointed out that, considering he thought he could reinstate Crowley and have him come with, it might not be that far from what we know of the angel.

But, in the words of Gaiman, we’ll all have to “wait and see” to find out who’s right. While season 3 hasn’t yet been renewed, fans are hopeful for another run to see out the show.

Producer Sarah-Kate Fenelon recently told RadioTimes.com: “I think people will be very unhappy if that’s where it stops, I will say. They’ll be heartbroken.

“If you look at the stories, they’re getting what they want – but it’s not what we want. But the main structure of season 2 is the mystery of Gabriel, and the mystery gets to a conclusion.

“But yes, I will say Neil has written as good a cliffhanger as I’ve ever seen in television.”

James Hibbs <![CDATA[Meet the cast of The Lincoln Lawyer]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1642678 2023-08-01T15:16:47Z 2023-08-01T14:32:03Z

The first half of The Lincoln Lawyer dropped last month and left things on a shocking cliffhanger for our Hotshot LA defence attorney Mickey Haller.

Mickey is played in this adaptation of Michael Connelly’s books by Manuel García-Rulfo, while he was previously played in the 2011 film by Matthew McConaughey.

Season 2 of the Netflix adaptation is based of the fourth book in Michael Connelly’s series of novels, The Fifth Witness, which sees the defence attorney tasked with proving the innocence of client and alleged murderer Lisa Trammell (Lana Parrilla).

The first season proved hugely popular with Netflix subscribers and the first half of the new season also jumped to the top of the streamer’s top 10 charts.

García-Rulfo previously teased what fans could expect from Mickey in this second season, telling Netflix that his newfound fame and success “has its good side and its bad side”.

He continued: “He’s got this mojo back and his confidence back and all that, but I think that success brings a lot of bad stuff as well if you don’t know how to handle it — and I think he wasn’t ready for it.”

The series also once again stars Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Angus Sampson and Jazz Raycole, but who else appears in the show and who do they all play?

Read on for everything you need to know about the cast of The Lincoln Lawyer as the series returns for its second half of season 2.

Talking about what it was like to play his character Haller, García-Rulfo told ComingSoon.net: “We find him at the beginning in the lowest part of his life, and then he’s climbing. I can’t say much, but yeah, it was such a pleasure playing Mickey Haller, a character that is loved by so many. To be part of Michael Connelly’s world. It was such a pleasure.

“I mean, Mickey Haller is one of those characters that… he’s larger than life. So lots of collars and very complex, and vulnerable. So it was beautiful. It was really cool to play him.”

Shaheena Uddin <![CDATA[Barbie is not just ‘white feminism’ – it’s for everybody]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1866775 2023-08-01T14:30:13Z 2023-08-01T14:30:13Z

“Why on earth do adults have nothing better to do than to dress in pink and support a film about a doll who has made young girls feel insecure about themselves?” – a man with a megaphone condescendingly mansplained to a line of journalists queueing up to watch the press screening of Barbie.

The irony was completely lost on him that he, a fully grown man, had nothing better to do that evening than to stand in Leicester Square and harass the (mostly female) moviegoers, making them “feel insecure about themselves” for simply enjoying a film and doing their job.

This experience is just one spectacular reinforcement that we unfortunately do not live in the female utopia of Barbieland, but in the real world.

As Greta Gerwig rightly showcases in the film, ours is plagued with harassment, cat-calling and discrimination, performed mainly by entitled and uniformed men.

I only wish this man could have seen Gerwig’s cinematic masterpiece for himself, because it directly speaks to the concerns surrounding Mattel’s most popular doll.

Gerwig incorporated an anti-Barbie perspective through the teenage girl character of Sasha (America Ferrera’s on-screen daughter, played by Ariana Greenblatt) who, alongside friends Yasmin, Jade and Chloe (all named after the Bratz dolls), brutally digs into Margot Robbie’s stereotypical Barbie for being a symbol of “sexist” beauty standards, even going as far as to hilariously call her a “fascist”.

Although Mattel was initially hesitant with some of the scenes included in the film, Gerwig was right to address the controversies.

“If we don’t acknowledge certain things – if we don’t say it, someone else is going to say it. So you might as well be a part of that conversation,” Margot Robbie said to Mattel’s president and CEO, Richard Dickson.

In doing so, Gerwig has the upper hand, because by being self-aware and making fun of the brand itself, it’s harder to criticise the film.

Yet one critique that keeps cropping up in marginalised communities is the notion that the film is allegedly a “white feminist” fantasy, instilling typical western beauty standards of being blonde and thin.

HARI NEF as Barbie, ALEXANDRA SHIPP as Barbie, SHARON ROONEY as Barbie, ANA CRUZ KAYNE as Barbie and EMMA MACKEY as Barbie in Barbie

As a woman of colour myself, I was personally surprised by these responses, because my expectations for the film were very different. To me, it’s like going to watch the film Cars and being mad that there are – surprise, surprise – cars in it.

I’m all for diverse representation (I often campaign and write about it) but I do think there’s no escaping featuring an eponymous, historical, stereotypical blonde Barbie in a film titled Barbie! After all, Margot Robbie’s appearance is exactly what you think of when you first think of ‘Barbie’ (and that’s on perfect casting).

But what was refreshing to see was Gerwig adding a new dimension to this iconic doll by demonstrating stereotypical Barbie’s privilege in comparison to the lived experiences of human women in the real world.

Furthermore, by making America Ferrera, a Latina woman of colour, do the educating on behalf of “white saviour” feminist Barbie, the film incorporates an intersectional lens of feminism, as Twitter user and TikTok influencer Maliha Fairooz rightly points out.

I think the fact that Gerwig chose to present this in the film is representative of an intersectional view of feminism – acknowledging the labour women of colour do on behalf of white feminists in the real world.

But there’s also a lot more to her character, as Ferrera explained in a recent interview with Gay Times: “The thing Greta didn’t have to do was write Gloria as a Latina woman.

“I think we often see ourselves represented in very gritty and rough stories about our struggles and our deportations and our rough lives, you know? But to get to be included in the fun, in the brightness, in the culture-making moments that are about joy is, to me, really special.”

This is not the first time Gerwig has been labelled a “white feminist” – her previous films Lady Bird and Little Women were also centred on white stories.

But naturally, as a white woman, Gerwig is likely to write stories based on her own experiences, and she may be wary of stepping outside those grounds to speak on behalf of minorities.

This is a view taken by journalist and aspiring filmmaker Rimsha Ali, who explains how she is “glad Greta didn’t write it on the voice of women of colour, because it allows giving space to other women to produce their own movies accordingly”.

In Gerwig’s defence, just because she happens to be ‘white’ and ‘feminist’ does not automatically or necessarily mean she is a “white feminist”. (I would recommend checking out Shahed Ezaydi’s and Koa Beck’s books on white feminism for more info.)

I could also argue that a diverse range of Barbies are represented in the film in terms of race, culture, size, and jobs, but I think it is important to recognise that representation goes beyond mere categories or checkboxes.

As a hijabi myself, it was heartwarming to see a “Hijarbie” minorly represented in the film, although it would have been nice if she had a voice along with some of the amazing women of colour leads including Issa Rae (President Barbie), Alexandra Shipp (Writer Barbie), and my personal favourite, Ritu Arya (Journalist Barbie).

Yet what really stood out to me more was not these token minorities, but instead how the heart and messages of the film were quite universal and relatable to any audience.

The same way it is possible to relate to animated non-human characters, I had no trouble resonating and empathising with Margot Robbie’s Barbie, despite not looking like her. The very real emotion and human representation transcends a lot of the hollow, superficial representation, in my opinion.

When I saw Barbie lying on the floor having an existential crisis, I felt seen. When Barbie cried while Billie Eilish’s song What Was I Made For? played beautifully in the background, I couldn’t help but shed a tear too.

And when I saw “Depresso Barbie” rewatching Pride & Prejudice (my favourite classic) for the 100th time, my bestie and I had to pause to look at each other in awe as we mouthed “that’s me” to the screen.

But the standout moment for me and a lot of viewers had to be when Ferrera gave her showstopper monologue, because it spoke directly to the pressures of womanhood and feeling the need to be extraordinary all the time.

All of this consolidates the message that anyone can be a Barbie, because Barbie is for all – even to the point of transcending the original creator’s idea.

What is also fascinating is that the blockbuster success of the film has perhaps even escaped Gerwig’s original intentions, with viewers analysing and perhaps reading too much into the film about the doll: It cannot avoid extreme readings, with some saying it’s “too woke” and others saying it’s “not woke enough”.

Yes, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film is not perfect. Yes, it would have been nice to have more representation of the WOC Barbies. Yes, the feminism is a tad simplistic. But as critics have rightly pointed out, the Barbie film is not meant to be a “feminist manifesto”, but rather lighthearted entertainment at the end of the day, and it covers a lot of ground for what it achieves in an impressive 1hr 54 min runtime.

(Critic Zoë Rose Bryant also had an excellent theory on why the feminism in Barbie seems a little basic: because it was meant to mirror a child’s development.)

The film gave us a depiction of what life would look like under two gendered extremes – both a matriarchy in Barbieland, and a patriarchy in the real world.

One key takeaway message that emerges is that neither world is sustainable, and instead it implies a need for balance and equality between the sexes, and that’s what makes it a feminist film – rather than ‘anti-male’.

Giving her take on Barbie, journalist Furvah Shah told me: “Overall, I loved the film. I laughed, cried, felt seen and heard! I thought it was an affirming, celebratory representation of womanhood.

“While the monologue was touching and very relatable, it was somewhat surface-level. Yet, should we expect revolutionary feminist dialogue from a big-budget blockbuster like this?”

An interesting point emerges from all this exhausting discourse: Does every film about women have the pressure to be an all-encompassing empowering, feminist documentary? Perfect and extraordinary in the same way we expect women to uphold the impossible standards Ferrera outlines in her speech?

Why don’t we hold films made by men up to these same requirements? Why can’t we just enjoy a fun, silly, nostalgic film packaged in a pink wonderland? Isn’t that Kenough?

Stefania Sarrubba <![CDATA[Who is Graham Foster in EastEnders? Freddie’s father explained]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/?p=1861837 2023-08-01T14:40:08Z 2023-08-01T14:20:48Z

EastEnders marks the return of a past character in Freddie Slater‘s paternity storyline.

The teen, played by Bobby Brazier, is set on finding his biological father Graham Foster, unaware of the dramatic truth relating to his conception.

Portrayed by Alex McSweeney, Graham first appeared on Albert Square in 2003. During his on-off two-year stint on the BBC soap, the character sexually assaulted Little Mo Slater (Kacey Ainsworth), who got pregnant with Freddie and had to stand trial for his crime.

Let’s dive into Graham’s time in Walford and how his terrible past actions weigh on the Slaters 18 years on as Freddie seeks out his father after all these years…

Who is Graham Foster in EastEnders?

Graham was first introduced to EastEnders in November 2003 as a customer of the Queen Vic.

He befriended Little Mo, with the two bonding over their shared love of crosswords. However, Graham had ulterior motives for his interest in Mo and, one night, he made his intentions clear by trying to kiss her when they were alone in the pub.

Despite Mo’s repeated rejections, Graham couldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer and he raped her on the floor of The Queen Vic pub, resulting in the conception of Freddie.

Little Mo’s father, Charlie (Derek Martin), assaulted Graham upon learning about what he did to his daughter, getting his cab driver’s licence suspended and facing three months in jail.

Mo’s rapist added insult to injury by asking for compensation, forcing Mo’s sister Kat (Jessie Wallace) and her then-husband Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) to borrow £10,000 from her ex, the gangster Andy Hunter (Michael Higgs).

However, justice would come for Graham too when he finally stood trial for sexual assault in November 2004.

What happened to Graham Foster in EastEnders?

Graham stood in court for having raped Mo, who gave her account of the incident, backed by her husband Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick).

During the trial, Graham’s mum Deirdre (Patricia Brake) informed Mo that Graham had two daughters, Ella and Rebecca, from a previous marriage that he wasn’t in touch with.

Under oath, Graham tried to appeal to the judge by lying about often visiting his daughters. However, he was blindsided when Mo’s barrister revealed it had been over three years since he last saw them.

Furious, Graham shouted at his mother from the dock, realising she must’ve told Mo about Ella and Rebecca.

Graham was eventually sentenced to eight years in prison but appeared again in 2005 when he requested a visit from Billy.

During their encounter, Graham goaded Mo’s husband about not being Freddie’s biological father, insisting the boy would grow up to look like him. Graha further enraged Billy by hinting at being excited about meeting Freddie once he’d get out of prison.

As revealed on Tuesday 1st August 2023, Graham Foster is now a car dealer working at a leadership in London, having gotten out of prison years prior.

Upon receiving details about his father’s name and location from his cousin Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall), Freddie researches his father and decides to meet him – ignorant of the truth about the manner of his own conception.

Will Freddie discover the truth?
