While everyone else has been adventuring their way through the magical school and surrounding areas in Hogwarts Legacy for a while now, Nintendo Switch owners have had to sit and wait patiently for their turn.

Fortunately, we now have a confirmed release date!

Unfortunately, the game missed its initially planned release window on Nintendo's hybrid console and has suffered a delay so the development team can fine-tune the title and make it the best it can be on Switch's lesser performance.

Given the jump down in horsepower on the Switch, you might be wondering how a console that sacrifices power for innovation will play a game that looks to require a lot of power.

Well, Troy Johnson, a developer for the game, addressed this in an interview with Italian site Multiplayer. He said: “The Switch version is going to be awesome, it sure will be.

"We are doing everything in our power to make sure that each version is beautiful, that it is well-optimised and, above all, that it is faithful to the idea we had of the title. And in the end it will be exactly the title we want.”

There's plenty of Harry Potter things you can be doing to prepare for its eventual release, however — you can take the Hogwarts Legacy house sorting quiz, eye up the different common rooms and try out the Hogwarts Legacy name generator, making a start on your character customisation before the game arrives.

With that out of the way, here's everything you need to know about the Hogwarts Legacy Switch release date, whether it will be a cloud version or not, and how to pre-order.

Will Hogwarts Legacy come to Switch?

Yes, Hogwarts Legacy will release on Nintendo Switch.

The developers made this clear by including the Switch on the list of confirmed platforms on the Frequently Asked Questions page of the game's official website.

The FAQ page states: "Hogwarts Legacy will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, Nintendo Switch and PC." This is still the case but the port was hit with a delay.

Hogwarts Legacy Switch release date

Hogwarts Legacy will be released on Nintendo Switch on 14th November 2023, the developers have confirmed. The Switch port was previously expected in July, before being hit by a delay.

This is a few months after other versions of the game, with the game launching on PC and current-gen consoles in February before then reaching PS4 and Xbox One in April.

Can you pre-order Hogwarts Legacy on Switch?

You can now pre-order Hogwarts Legacy on Switch from Argos for £49.99, or get the Deluxe Edition with the Dark Arts Pack from GAME for £59.99.

Will Hogwarts Legacy on Switch be a cloud version?

With pre-orders now live for physical copies of Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch, there is no mention of the game being a cloud version. This seems to suggest that the Switch release will not be a cloud edition after all – you wouldn't expect to buy the game in a box if you weren't getting a physical cartridge, right? Perhaps that's something of a clue.

It will be interesting to see how well Hogwarts Legacy runs on Switch then, given that the game had rather demanding PC requirements, and if any sacrifices had to be made in the gameplay.

It's not unheard of for cloud versions of games to release on Nintendo Switch, with players accessing an online version of a game instead of inserting a physical cartridge or partaking in a digital download.

This is becoming increasingly common, especially with larger and more complicated games that might not be able to run on Switch without the help of some cloud-based online streaming.

Hitman 3 and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game, for example, were only available on Switch through the cloud — in other words, you had to be online if you wanted to play them.

For now, we'll keep our eyes peeled for any extra information about Hogwarts Legacy on Switch.
