The Meta Quest 3 has been officially revealed by Mark Zuckerberg. After a period of speculation, the new VR headset from Meta has been unveiled, along with its price and a number of other details including a release date window.
It's been more than two years since the release of the Meta Quest 2 so it's safe to say fans of the VR headset have been eagerly anticipating the next one.
Turns out, there's a lot to be excited about. This is set to be Meta's most powerful VR headset yet and Asgard's Wrath 2 has been confirmed as a launch title.

When is the Meta Quest 3 release date?
Mark Zuckerberg and Meta have revealed that the Meta Quest 3 release date is set to land sometime in autumn 2023 (fall for those of an American persuasion).
The release date window was confirmed in a short reveal trailer for the VR headset, which you can watch below:
We'll learn more about the Meta Quest 3 on 27 September 2023 during the Meta Connect conference. Fingers crossed there's no delay and we'll have the new headset in our hands shortly after that conference.

Can I pre-order the Meta Quest 3?
You cannot currently pre-order the Meta Quest 3. While the device has now officially been unveiled, along with a number of games and other details, the finalised release date is yet to be revealed.
It is possible to sign up for the latest updates on the Quest 3 directly through Meta. Hopefully, more is learned about its release date and pre-order details during the company's Meta Connect conference on 27 September.
However, you can buy the Meta Quest 2 from a number of places, including this deal at Amazon. This should tide you over until the swanky new hardware arrives!

How much does the Meta Quest 3 cost?
The Meta Quest 3 price starts at £499.99 for the 128 GB version, it has been confirmed.
Further prices for different editions are yet to be confirmed by Meta.
Following the announcement of the shiny new VR device, Meta has confirmed that is reducing the RRP of the Quest 2 and Quest Pro, with the new lower prices put in place since 4 June.
It's been confirmed, too, that the Quest 2 and Quest Pro are becoming more powerful thanks to a new software update which — according to a press release — will "see an up-to 26% CPU performance increase with an up-to 19% GPU speed increase for Quest 2 and 11% for Quest Pro."
What do we know about the Meta Quest 3 specs and features?
The Meta Quest 3 is set to be "40% thinner and more comfortable", as was revealed in an official press release.
Meta is promising "better displays and resolution" and a "next gen Qualcomm chipset with 2x the graphics performance" of its pre-existing VR headsets.
The company behind Facebook is calling the Meta Quest 3 its "most powerful headset yet".
Mixed Reality (MR) is set for an upgrade on the Meta Quest 3, too. Meta explains that its new VR headset has "dual 4 MP RGB colour cameras, a depth sensor for a more accurate representation of your play space, and 10x more pixels in Passthrough compared to Quest 2."
Finally, the Touch Plus controllers have been "completely redesigned". The outer tracking rings have been removed courtesy of "advances in tracking technology" and TruTouch haptics are included as standard, along with hand tracking "thanks to Direct Touch that lets you use just your hands to interact with virtual objects".
Of course, though, what good is a VR headset without a library of games worth playing?
What games are on Meta Quest 3?
Meta has confirmed that the Quest 3 is set to launch with a number of new VR and MR games, including Asgard's Wrath 2, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, PowerWash Simulator VR, Assassin's Creed Nexus and Stranger Things VR.

Every game confirmed in the showcase above is available on Quest 2 and 3. Thanks to the increased power of the Quest 3, however, we could see exclusive apps and games on the new headset.
What's more, the Meta Quest 3 is launching with full backwards compatibility with the Quest 2. This means that out of the box you've got access to over 500 games, apps and other experiences.
