Announced way back in 2017, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has been in development for as long as the Nintendo Switch has been around. Originally slated for 2021, we finally have a release date. And it's not too far away.

The game, based on James Cameron's Avatar film series, lets us see the world of Pandora through the eyes of the Na'vi (literally, the game is first person). It's also open world, which is pretty darn exciting. Who doesn't want to explore the rich world of Pandora?

Now that we have a lot more information, you might be wondering what the game's all about. Fear not - we'll share all below.

When is the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora release date?

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will release on the 7th December this year.

This doesn't seem to be coinciding with a film release, so there won't be any confusion about it being a movie tie-in.

What platforms can I get Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on?

The Xbox Series X and the PS5 will be home to the game, while according to pre-orders it will also launch on the Xbox One and the PS4. You will also be able to play it on Amazon Luna, Google Stadia and PC.

Can I pre-order Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora ?

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora pre-orders have indeed begun, with GAME having the title ready to add to your basket for £67.99.

Don't forget that when you pre-order, you will get it at the lowest price it drops to between now and release - if it drops at all, that is.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora story and gameplay

Rather than being a straight retelling of the Avatar 2 film hit cinemas last year, this game will be a standalone story set in the world of Avatar - which should mean the creators were given some much-needed creative freedom.

The player will take control of a Na’vi raised by the RDA, who fought against her own tribe after being captured and indoctrinated as a child. After the RDA leave Pandora, our protagonist rejoins the Na’vi clans to fight against the RDA when they return. In order to regain their trust after being an outsider for so long, she has to reconnect with her Na’vi heritage.

The gameplay looks similar to another Ubisoft open world game: Far Cry. However, the world of Pandora looks like nothing we've seen before.
