The game's latest closed beta has just come to an end and a number of lucky players got the chance to try the game out before its full launch.

With no word of a future closed (or open) beta, it seems we now have to wait to see what Ubisoft has up its sleeves regarding the game's release. We could yet see another beta confirmed before its launch.

Given the game's playable factions are inspired by Ubisoft's existing franchises, including Splinter Cell, there is plenty to get excited about here.

Keep on reading to find out everything there is to know about the XDefiant release date, beta, gameplay, and to watch a trailer.

Tom Clancy's XDefiant release date speculation

The full release date for Tom Clancy's XDefiant has not yet been confirmed, but some lucky people have played the game already thanks to a recent beta test.

This was not the first beta for the game — tests have actually been running since 2021 — and you can keep on reading for all the key details about it.

With the game now seeming to be ready for some level of public consumption, we wouldn't be surprised to see the full release before the end of 2023. But that hasn't been confirmed yet!

When did the XDefiant beta end? Will there be another one?

The latest XDefiant closed beta came to an end on Wednesday 25th April at 11pm PT for players in the USA.

Here in the UK, this means that the servers closed at 7am BST on the morning of Wednesday 26th April. That's the magic of time differences, folks!

As of writing Ubisoft has not confirmed another beta. If there is another closed beta, however, it could work the same as the previous one.

How to join XDefiant beta

There were two ways to join the last XDefiant closed beta, which began on Thursday 13th April 2023 and ended on 26th April:

  • Register your interest on the game's official website, which might have been enough by itself
  • Take part in the XDefiant Twitch drops scheme — click that link to learn more about it. Basically, you needed to watch streams of XDefiant in order to earn rewards

If you did both of those things, you will have done everything possible to improve your chances of getting into the previous closed beta. Fingers crossed we get another one soon.

Which consoles can you get Tom Clancy's XDefiant on?

The XDefiant closed beta is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Ubisoft Connect. The full game is expected to come to PS4 and Xbox One, as well.

XDefiant will also get a cloud-based release on Amazon Luna, which should mean that most gamers are able to find a way to play the game if they really want to.

And in even better news, the game has been confirmed to be free to play – we just love the word free here!

Tom Clancy's XDefiant gameplay

Gameplay videos for Tom Clancy's XDefiant have started to appear online, like the one below which should give you a feel for the game...

Thanks to videos and announcements, we do know quite a lot about how the game will play. For starters, we know what the characters are that you will be able to choose from in the game, and they all take their inspiration from past games from Ubisoft. The five factions confirmed to appear are:

  • The Cleaners (The Division)
  • Libertad (Far Cry 6)
  • Echelon (Splinter Cell)
  • Phantoms (Ghost Recon)
  • DedSec (Watch Dogs)

The game will act as a sort of merging of previous games and will be as hectic a game as you would imagine it to be with various game modes said to be included.

The Ubisoft title appears to be a long-term plan for the studio, and it will be continually updated as it goes on with new features, modes and maps added – so another entry in the ever-growing free to play world of gaming.
