The 1994 original has been faithfully reimagined with modern tech bringing the certified classic to a new audience, but when is the System Shock remake release?

Announced all the way back in 2016 on Kickstarter, the remake was quickly funded in just a couple of weeks - proving there was an audience eager to replay the game or wanting to enjoy the story without the impenetrable gameplay of the original.

Well, the wait for the PC release is finally almost over and in no time you will be running for your life down Citadel Station’s many corridors.

To find out extra details on the game, be sure to check out our interview with System Shocks narrative director Stephen Kick in the video above.

Read on for everything you need to know about the System Shock remake release date, pre-order information, what platforms it's available on, and to watch a trailer.

When is the System Shock remake release date?

The System Shock remake release date is 30th May 2023, the development team has confirmed. Trouble is, this release date is for PC only.

There is still no word on a release date for the console versions of the game. This information will be confirmed in due time, so watch this space!

What is the UK launch time for the System Shock remake?

The System Shock remake will be released at 4pm BST on 30th May 2023 in the UK, we've been told through official channels.

At that time, the game should unlock on all PC platforms that it is planned to launch on (more on that in a moment).

Can I pre-order System Shock remake?

Surprisingly, given the lack of a release date, you can pre-purchase the System Shock remake on Steam, GOG.com, and the Epic Games Store for £34.99 - but be quick! If you manage pre-purchase the remake on Steam in time you’ll receive System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition for free.

If you wanted to save yourself some extra pennies, you can also order System Shock remake on CDKeys for £24.99.

If you haven't made up your mind yet, there is a free demo available to play too.

Which consoles and platforms can play System Shock remake?

The System Shock remake is launching on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Unfortunately, it is not releasing on all platforms on the same day. PC players will get the game first on 30th May 2023 while console owners will have to wait.

Given that the original System Shock was PC-only back in 1994, it’s nice to see it finally launch on consoles. It more than likely will not be making its way to Nintendo Switch.

System Shock remake gameplay and story details

In System Shock, SHODAN, Citadel Station’s AI, has gone rogue and taken over. The crew has been turned into an army to do her bidding and she wishes to do the same to Earth. It’s up to you to stop SHODAN and end her plans.

The System Shock remake is a first-person shooter/adventure in a science-fiction setting. Thanks to its non-linear story, you’ll be able to unravel the plot at your own pace and explore Citadel Station however you like.

You’ll need to keep your wits about you, though, as there will be plenty of enemies to shoot down and systems to hack into.

Is there a System Shock remake trailer?

There are a few System Shock remake trailers, but the best one is the newest one, which shows off the first-person gameplay, Blade-Runner-esque graphics, and eerie atmosphere rather well.

It contains a little slice of everything the game is about and you can watch it below:
