Keep on reading for everything you need to know about the Minecraft 1.20 release date, what's being added in the update, and to watch a trailer.

When is the Minecraft 1.20 release date?

The Minecraft 1.20 is available to download now. It went live on Wednesday 7th June 2023 across both Java and Bedrock versions of the game. Its UK launch time was 3pm BST on 7th June.

A number of the update's new features were playable in testing form thanks to the pre-release snapshots, but now the full release of Trails & Tales has arrived across all platforms so everyone can join in on the fun.

Minecraft 1.20 patch notes: What does the update change?

The Minecraft 1.20 update is titled Trails & Tales. The focus of the update is to encourage storytelling and sharing through self-expression and representation.

This will be achieved by making use of the new archaeology feature, the Sniffer mob, by exploring a cherry blossom biome, riding camels, crafting with bamboo, and more.

Archaeology is perhaps the biggest new feature being added as part of the 1.20 update. With Minecraft archaeology, you will need to look out for suspicious sand and/or gravel blocks and use the new brush item to discover what’s within.

Another major new addition is the cherry blossom biome. This will add tonnes of cherry blossom trees into the game, with pigs, sheep, and bees drawn to the pink plants. The biome contains cherry tree saplings you can pick up and bring with you to plant in other worlds if you wish.

New to the 1.20 update is the ability to hang signs, and playable mob sounds. It might sound a bit grim, but you can now place mob heads onto note blocks to play the sound specific to that mob. Armour trims are another new feature which you can dye into one of ten colours and add to your armour by using a smithing table.
