Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Playing like an extended episode of the long-running TV series, The Bob's Burgers Movie serves up flame-grilled gags galore, but takes few risks with the show's family-on-the-edge formula. When a sinkhole opens up in front of their building a week before rent is due, the Belcher clan embark on a mission to save their restaurant. While parents Bob and Linda set out to make a quick buck via a burger cart (with help/hindrance from friend/customer Teddy), kids Tina, Gene and Louise attempt to solve a years-old murder after a body is discovered in the hole. Musical interludes, fart jokes, light peril and heartfelt moments are all present and correct, while the animation style has been suitably upgraded to theatrical proportions. Fans may experience déjà vu, though, as the film recycles a number of the show's plots, while the low-key tone may disappoint some - especially when comparing this to more ambitious animated spin-offs such as The Simpsons Movie and South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. Still, as an introduction to the Belchers and their madcap world, this delivers appetising, if not completely belly-filling, entertainment.
