What to watch on TV this week: 31st July – 6th August
Heartstopper season 2 and Wolf are among our picks for what to watch on TV this week.
It's a huge week for new and returning series, kicking off in style with brand new thriller series Wolf starring Ukweli Roach, Sacha Dhawan and Iwan Rheon.
This will be followed up later in the week by other fresh releases including Vanishing Act and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, while major returning shows include Physical, Heartstopper and The Lincoln Lawyer.
Meanwhile Apple TV+ thriller Hijack will draw to a close in what is sure to be dramatic fashion, but if you're looking for something unscripted, this week is packed full of entertainment series and sporting events too.
Celebrity MasterChef is back for its latest season, as is Kate Garraway's Life Stories. Meanwhile, cricket fans can enjoy this year's The Hundred, and football followers can look forward to Game4Ukraine, the charity match supporting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's UNITED24 initiative.

Wolf
Release date: Monday 31st July, 9pm, BBC One
This new thriller from the production company behind Sherlock and Inside Man is based on the Jack Caffery novels by Mo Hayder, and stars Ukweli Roach in the central role, alongside Sacha Dhawan, Iwan Rheon, Juliet Stevenson, Owen Teale and more. It follows two parallel storylines, with Jack investigating a five-year-old case and two men taking the wealthy Anchor-Ferrers family hostage in their own home.
The Hundred 2023
Release date: Tuesday 1st August, Sky Sports Cricket
This third session of The Hundred cricket competition, which features eight men's teams and eight women's teams from across England and Wales competing. The first two sessions have proved hugely popular, and the men's Trent Rockets and the women's Oval Invincibles will be hoping to recapture their glory from last year - but will any of the other teams come out in front?
Hijack finale
Release date: Wednesday 2nd August, Apple TV+
This seven-part, real-time thriller starring Idris Elba comes to a close, in what is sure to be dramatic fashion. Elba's Sam will have his work cut out for him in this finale, as a new threat is set to emerge on board, making for a struggle to control the chaos and get all the passengers back to the ground safely.
Physical season 3
Release date: Wednesday 2nd August, Apple TV+
Dark comedy drama Physical, which stars Rose Byrne, will come to an end with this third season. The season finds her status challenged by rising celebrity exercise goddess Kelly Kilmartin, played by Zooey Deschanel, who becomes not only a professional threat, but manages to get in her head.

Celebrity MasterChef season 18
Release date: Wednesday 2nd August, 9pm, BBC One
John Torode and Gregg Wallace are back to judge this new season of Celebrity MasterChef, which sees contestants including James Buckley, Mica Ven, Marcus Brigstocke, Richie Anderson and Dani Dyer facing the heat and cooking up their best dishes for the duo in the MasterChef kitchen.
Kate Garraway's Life Stories
Release date: Wednesday 2nd August, 9pm, ITV1
Kate Garraway returns as host of Life Stories for the second time, after she took over from Piers Morgan last year. This year's season will see her have in-depth conversations with Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke, actress and comedian Ruby Wax and actor and comedian Omid Djalili.
Heartstopper season 2
Release date: Thursday 3rd August, Netflix
The first season of Heartstopper became an overnight smash hit, and now the coming-of-age LGBTQ+ drama returns for its second outing. This time around Nick and Charlie are navigating their new relationship, while Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends.
The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 part 2
Release date: Thursday 3rd August, Netflix
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo's Mickey Haller is back for the second half of season 2, in the legal drama based on the books of Michael Connelly. This second season has been on the fourth book in the series, The Fifth Witness, with Haller continuing to run his law practice out of the back seat of his Lincoln.
Vanishing Act
Release date: Thursday 3rd August, ITVX
This drama, based on a true story, stars Kate Atkinson as Melissa Caddick, an Australian businesswoman who disappeared after being confronted by authorities for her alleged multi-million dollar swindling. The series tells the story of the charismatic con-artist, as well as those who suddenly found themselves grieving for a lost friend and daughter, while coming to terms with a monumental betrayal.
The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart
Release date: Friday 4th August, Prime Video
This drama starring Sigourney Weaver tells the story of Alice Hart, a girl aged nine, who tragically loses her parents in a mysterious fire. The series spans decades, as Alice is taken to live with her grandmother at Thornfield flower farm, where she learns that there are secrets within secrets about her and her family’s past.
Game4Ukraine
Release date: Saturday 5th August, 5pm, Sky Max
This charity football match is in support of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's UNITED24 initiative, and sees a host of Chelsea legends joined by some of football's biggest names and a sprinkling of celebrities, including Ted Lasso's Toheeb Jimoh and Phil Dunster, all of whom are taking to the pitch.
