The supernatural crime thriller follows social worker Lucy, who is woken every night by terrifying visions at exactly 3:33am: the devil’s hour.

Season 1 unravelled Lucy's connection to a string of brutal murders in the area and to the mysterious killer, Gideon (Doctor Who alum Peter Capaldi).

Capaldi will return in season 2 alongside Meera Syal, Benjamin Chivers, Nikesh Patel and Phil Dunster, it has been confirmed, whilst various new cast members have been also been announced, with Saffron Hocking (Top Boy) joining the series as Sam Boyd, a detective sergeant who worked under Lucy in a past life.

Here are the latest updates we have on the future of The Devil's Hour, including when season 2 might see the light of day.

An official release date for The Devil's Hour season 2 is yet to be confirmed.

The show was renewed for both a second and third season back in November 2022, meaning the series will play out as was originally intended.

Raine previously confirmed plans for the series to operate as a trilogy last year, stating: "When I took the job, what was so attractive to me was that the whole of the first season was written when we started that first day of shooting, so I knew exactly where it was going. I also knew that he [writer Tom Moran] had a season 2 and a season 3 planned out."

Nikesh Patel (DI Ravi Dhillon), Meera Syal (Dr Ruby Bennett), Alex Ferns (DS Nick Holness), Phil Dunster (Mike Stephens) and Barbara Marten (Sylvia Chambers) will also return to The Devil's Hour cast.

As detailed above, Saffron Hocking (Top Boy) has joined the season 2 cast as Sam Boyd, a detective sergeant who worked under Lucy in a past life.

We could see some surprising developments for our key characters in season 2, with Raine teasing some big changes in store for social worker Lucy.

"It's a gift of a role because it will continue to be really challenging, not formulaic at all, a different side of the coin," she explained.

"That's the bit I can't say much about, but oh my God... [the first season] is like one third of a novel, so there's so much scope for more," continued Raine. "It's a really, really good idea and I hope we get to finish it."

The first season ended with Gideon escaping custody to cause more time-warping mayhem, which is sure to have repercussions for Lucy and the other core characters.
