Star Trek fans are still recovering from last week's blisteringly funny crossover between Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks, which arrived earlier than expected as a special Comic-Con treat.

But already we have another intergalactic adventure to throw ourselves into, with today's new chapter – Under the Cloak of War – seeing the USS Enterprise crew encounter a Klingon defector.

If the wacky tone that the Lower Decks characters brought with them isn't to your taste, this episode should revert back to a more typical style for Strange New Worlds.

However, franchise icon Jonathan Frakes actually loved the unpredictable improvisation of guest stars Jack Quaid (The Boys) and Tawny Newsome (Space Force), suggesting that other Star Trek projects should have more room to experiment.

"[It] doesn’t happen a lot on Star Trek, as you probably have heard,” he told Variety. “I mean, especially in [The Next Generation] they were so strict. It was like we were doing Shakespeare or Chekhov... Maybe this will open some eyes."
