There has been wild speculation of late about a Doctor Who event coming to Fortnite.

The rumours were a bit thin for a while, but now more detailed information has surfaced on Twitter (where else?).

The wild speculations have been spreading across the platform for a while, with various unofficial sources and leakers providing information.

This information has always been vague and unspecific, and the sources questionable to say the least. Now (we hope!) things look a bit more concrete.

Rumours like this have been around for a while. They've been circling ever since hype was building for the BBC centenary special. While nothing came of that, we hope it does now. It's about time The Doctor came back to Fortnite.

How did rumours start about a Fortnite Doctor Who event?

The rumours about Fortnite and Doctor Who teaming up seem to have stemmed from Twitter, where a 'leaker' called iFireMonkey claims to have insider knowledge of the goings-on between the BBC and Epic Games.

This goes back to April this year, when iFireMonkey first brought to attention the possibility of a two week event. Check out that first tweet below:

That post encouraged fans to expect a "two week long event in game" that would feature "a set of free rewards for completing challenges" as well as paid cosmetics in the Item Shop. The tweet suggests that there could be two Doctor Who skins, two pickaxes, one glider and one emote in the Item Shop for the duration of the event.

The tweet also makes this claim: "There would also be a FREE Beep the Meep Spray as some sort of incentive for checking out the Creative map associated with this collaboration". With Beep the Meep also rumoured to be in the new Doctor Who episodes, that does sound feasible!

However, this isn't the end of the tweets. In fact, iFireMonkey revealed more info just yesterday.

What do the latest leaks add about the Fortnite Doctor Who event?

iFireMonkey tweeted on 31st July with details about when we can expect this event, as well as other insider details. Check it out below:

Disappointingly, it seems the 60th anniversary plans have been scrapped. And the reason it's taking so long is, apparently, due to a collaboration with Lego in November.

Still, with a December/January release window, it looks like we won't be waiting too long!

Another Twitter user, a prolific 'leaker' named FNBRintel, posted back in April about a number of claims about the rumoured Doctor Who event. And this account even seems to have some realistic-looking imagery to back up their statements.

FNBRintel claimed to have "received information about a Doctor Who collaboration coming to Fortnite", adding immediately that this collab "will feature cosmetics alongside a Creative Event with its own tab in the lobby".

More like this

That Creative mode event will apparently "take players between several planets" via the TARDIS, and it will also allegedly feature "a voice acted narrative". The story seems to involve working for UNIT, collecting leads and detecting some sort of residual energy.

FNBRintel also reiterated that players who take part will be rewarded with a Beep the Meep spray in the game. They even seemed to have a screenshot of the spray and a menu page, which teases loads of other collectables including the Tenth Doctor's 3D glasses!

In terms of weapons, FNBRintel believes there will be a "U.N.I.T Advanced Rifle that'll have a player tracking feature" as well as a "Wrarth Warrior Cannon that'll have a 'Hold to Hurt' mechanic".

The image above even appears to show Fortnite character Peely on the Doctor's Psychic Paper, alongside some detached Dalek arms (which could perhaps double up as pickaxes for players to use).

Looking at all of that, it's hard to believe that someone would make it up and go to the effort of making all the visuals, but stranger things have happened. We'll still take this all with a pinch of salt until the BBC or Epic Games outright confirms it through official channels.

When could the Fortnite Doctor Who event happen?

A new crossover between Doctor Who and Fortnite is yet to be confirmed by any official sources at this stage, but that won't stop us from hazarding a guess as to when it could be coming out.

Let's not forget the leak from iFireMonkey, who suggested a December or January release. As this isn't far away from the show's 60th anniversary in January, we reckon they could be onto something!

Will there be Fortnite Doctor Who skins?

So, what would a potential Doctor Who event in Fortnite actually include? One thing that fans would love to see is Doctor Who skins in Fortnite, of course. The current rumours seem to suggest there will be at least two skins in the potential event, and the obvious guesses there would be the incumbent David Tennant and incoming Ncuti Gatwa.

We'd love to see skins/outfits included for every Doctor, though, from William Hartnell all the way through to the modern era of Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa.

Here's a fun idea, though: what if there was actually just one Doctor Who skin, with multiple different styles to choose from, each of which represents a different Doctor? We'd love to see that.

As the tweet above suggests, we'd also love to see a TARDIS glider and a series of Doctor Who emotes and accessories. A back bling based on the Time Beetle from Turn Left, perhaps?

Are the Doctor Who Fortnite rumours true?

That's the million-dollar question! As is always the case with leaks and rumours, we cannot say for sure how much of this will turn out to be true. However, we would say that the core idea of a Doctor Who Fortnite event sounds very feasible.

Doctor Who has embraced the gaming world plenty of times over the years, after all, with a Fortnite Creative map in 2022 being the closest thing yet to an all-out event in Fortnite. That marketing event did not touch the main battle royale mode in Fortnite, though.

Very recently, a mobile game called Doctor Who: An Unlikely Heist came to Apple Arcade, and there are other games like The Lonely Assassins and The Edge of Reality in recent memory, as well. So, it does seem like the current BBC bosses have nothing against the gaming scene.

When you combine that with the very realistic-looking imagery that's flying around on Twitter, let's just say that we wouldn't be surprised to see the TARDIS materialising in Fortnite soon. We'll let you know if and when anything gets confirmed.
